Hello all. I''m considering getting my wife a diamond pendant for her 40th birthday. She likes pear-shaped diamonds, so I''ll be going with that general shape. Does anyone have any guesstimate as to what carat weight or actual size a pear-shaped pendant should be to look good (i.e., visible, nice, but not like a huge rock on her chest)? I was thinking about a 1.5 carat to 2 carats, but I don''t know that I''ve actually seen pear-shaped diamonds in those sizes. Any suggestions would be much appreciated! Thanks!

I have a .75 pear pendant which works for me...but a 1.5 to 2 carat pear pendant would be great! If you were talking
round diamond I would probably say thats rather large but because of the pear shape I personally think you can go
that large (and they do make pears in that size). Nice pears are hard to find so you'll have to be up for some hunting
around. Mostly when I see pears as pendants they are colored stones (like an aquamarine).

Good old gold as a 1.75 D SI2 but unfortunatly it has a wicked bow-tie.
It has a very nice looking shape though.

Edit - here is the "Show me your Pears" thread. Its mostly rings. They usually give the specs on
a diamond so you may be able to look through it and get a better idea of what a 1.5 to 2 carat
pear looks like.

tyty, is that GOG stone bow-tie? I thought that is just good light return? Bow-tie are suppose to be blue on the ASET and black on the IS image, right?

I think she would love that size of pear shaped diamond.

I''m sure a pear of the size you''re considering would make a stunning and noticeable pendant!

Hi SC,
I guess there are different definitions of bow-tie. To me its the area that goes between where
there is lots of faceting to where there is very little faceting (then back to a lot of faceting).
I dont like a big area of very little faceting (thats a big bow-tie to me).

I guess you look at it more as an area of light leakage?

No, as a area of obstruction, but I don''t know much about fancy which is why I am asking.

Thanks.

That to me looks like a considerable bow tie, many elongated fancy shapes will show a bow tie to some extent - the key is to ask the vendor how the bow tie looks in reality rather than trying to come to a definite conclusion in static images.

Taxman the size you are thinking of will make a superb pear pendant.

Many thanks to everyone for all your help!
