Hi, I am thinking for my first colored stone project that I would like to do a RHR with an east-west marquise in a setting like this: https://www.pricescope.com/community/threads/my-new-ring-custom-from-greenlake-jewelry-works.45126/

The setting would be rose gold, and I am looking for some kind of peachy pinky stone to go with it. I''ve never looked for colored stones before so I''m a bit of a newb, and don''t even really know what stones to look for. I have been searching imperial zircons, malaya garnets, and pink sapphires/tourmalines but still not seeing anything that would fit. It seems like marquise is not a popular colored stone cut. There is one on Finewater gems, a Malaya garnet that is about the right size but sort of a rounded marquise instead of a true marquise shape. Do you think that would fit? The gem is here: http://www.finewatergems.com/garnet.html

Do any of the experts have any suggestions? Thanks!

if you decide to go with the one at finewater you will be in good hands..as far as peachy-pink you may also try morganite

You could also extend the search to spinels which can come in pinkish shades.

A lot of the cutters can custom cut something for you if you can''t find anything that fits :)

What vendors do you recommend looking at? I''ve been going off the list that''s stickied in this forum but there''s just sooooo many stones on each site, there''s no way I could possibly go through them all.

Are there certain gemstones I should stay away from that will be too soft or delicate? The setting leaves a lot of the side exposed and it could get knocked a bit.

I''m not an expert but I found this marquise shaped sunstone. Does it have enough pink for you? http://www.djraregems.com/finegems.html

Someone else will have to chime in about whether or not that''s schiller. When I said I wasn''t an expert, I meant it!

But the stone you found looks beautiful and to my untrained eye, looks like a very nice cut. That stone seems more pinky/red, does that work for you as well?

I just found this pink tourmaline at http://bkkgemstones.com/pink-tourmaline-081ct-75mm-38mm-clean-marquise-p-978.html. I''d really suggest checking out the website as the video shows the color much better than this picture does. It''s more of a peachy/purply/pinky color in the video. Actually, bkkgemstones.com seems to have lots of marquises, so you may want to browse their website.

Here''s a pink sapphire marquise. Do you care if it''s heated or not?

Hah you are much better at finding marquises than me, thank you.

I went ahead and bought the ajsgems zircon because the price was so inexpensive. I figured it might be good to have one in-hand so I can compare the color I see on my monitor vs. the actual stone. I haven''t really sold myself one way or another on peach vs. pink vs. reddish peachy pink vs. purply red-pink vs....

Well, the picture of the zircon was quite beautiful. Post pictures when you get it, I''d love to see it!

What is the opinion on this multicolor tourmaline? I''m not sure of what I''m looking at. Is that non-saturated spot in the center a what is called a window? Or do tourmalines usually show something like that?

I don''t think that''s a window since you aren''t seeing clear through to the paper. It might be bi colored tourmaline? Or maybe a weird flash reflection?
