Is this a chip in the picture below?? I just got the ring back from being set yesterday, and I didn't knock it or make any kind of contact with any hard substance whatsoever. I can see it with my naked eye, and it looks to be underneath the girdle - the girdle is completely fine. From the top down you can't see anything. Please help

ETA - The diamond is an OEC from the 1920's.
ETA again - I frantically did some searches and looked on the report, and I believe it's a natural - I found it plotted in green on the report, and it's in a spot such that it would be impossible for the girdle to be perfectly in tact. But hopefully someone more knowledgeable will take a look for me. tia!

It could well be a natural, if you have a friendly jeweller or appraiser nearby they might be able to confirm it for you.

It looks like a natural to me. A ‘natural’ is part of the original skin of the diamond that’s still present after the cutting process. Lots of stones have them and it’s not something to be stressed about if that''s what you''ve got. If you’ve got good documentation on the piece, meaning a good prior appraisal or lab report on the stone, it may be listed there. If not, maybe now is a good time to have it looked at by a pro.

DA - It is plotted on the lab report in green, so I''m thinking it''s a natural too. But we''re going to get it appraised ASAP to make sure!

Looks like a natural to me, I want to expand on Neil''s reference to a natural being part of the original "skin" of a diamond because I realize that this concept might sound foreign to the diamond buying public... Think of it in terms of how finished lumber sometimes has a little bit of bark or the "skin" of a tree left on it after being cut, it''s like that. Here is a file photograph of a piece of uncut diamond rough which will provide some insight into how the "skin" of a diamond appears before the diamond has been polished:

PS is such an amazing wealth of knowledge - if not for the amazing experts, prosumers, and highly informational threads I think I would be a basket case right about now, thinking my diamond had a chip. To have such access to so much information and knowledge is such a gift, one for which I am so thankful!!
