Hi all!
35.gif

I''ve got a RHR project in mind that I want to pursue. But I do need some help and opinions from you all. I have a uncertified loose princess cut diamond - .30ct, Si1, G.( It''s an average stone but a diamond nevertheless

)
This is what I would like...however, the downfall is my piggy bank has limited funds right now to complete the project like it is in the picture. What I was thinking of was to not have the melee diamonds but having w/g bands. I hope that make sense.
FYI, the pic has a .65 ct stone in it.

Question 1: Do you think it will look good without the melee diamonds?

Question 2: Does anyone here have a split shank without diamonds?

Thanks!

Interesting. I think I might like it BETTER without the melee. The way it is looks like a mix of styles to me .. clean/modern vs. delicate/romantic ... doing it YOUR way will be ALL clean/modern.

Whether it would be "flattering" depends on your hand type I guess. If you have long slender fingers or even regular sized medium fingers - probably FLATTERING! If you have very short stocky fingers (ala Megan Mullaly over in the Celeb Bling thread) .. this ring might end up being too wide.

p.s. - if you have humongo butter sticks like I do -- ya just give up on what''s gonna be "flattering" & buy what ya like!

If i may, 3-sided pave both shanks - that''s what i would go for, it''s a softer, more rounded look.

If you interested i will make a photoshop later.

decodelighted: I am lucky to be blessed with average fingers. Surprisingly though, my right hand first and second fingers are and extra 1/2 inch longer after they got smashed in a safe door.

Admin: I would love to get that visualization. Thanks. BTW, would you be able to photoshop the existing ring without the melee for me so i can get a visual as to how that would look too?

Thank you.

I think it will look sleek and very cool! I like the bezel mounting. I think the important thing is to make sure the shanks are substantial enough so they don''t look like thin wires, but at the same time not too thick and heavy either.

What are your thoughts on making the metal MATTE? I think that would make the stone POP and would really enhance the overall contemporary look!

my mom has a ring that is just like the one you posted but without the melee. she''s out of town right now but i''ll try to get a picture when she gets back. personally, i think it''s better without the melee.

I like this ring without the sides stones! I like the bezel look fine too. However, I found this pic of a similar idea without the bezel, from somewhere in the show me the ring folder. It''s pretty interesting, but you might not like it. I''m not sure if it''s channel set or tension set, but I think this style setting is best for diamonds under .5 carats.

I love the idea of the exposed metal having a matte or satin-y finish and letting the diamond do all the sparkling.

Look how the satin finish makes the stones POP

okvgg

Thank you all for your ideas.

KristyDarling: I too, love the look of the bezel mounting. I''ve never thought about a matte.. I like the idea. Any pics of matte shanks? Now, I have some searching to do....

Shortblonde: OMG! I would love to see your mom''s ring. It would be great to actually see what it would look like in ''real'' life. Please post pics as soon as you get them. Thank you so much.

Kismet: That''s a nice ring although I think the bands (shank) needs to be thicker.

Keep them coming all! I appreciate all the help and opinions.

Have you seen BlueKeet''s Gabrielle e-ring? Not a split shank, but the shank is a matte finish and makes her diamond really stand out.

Here''s her thread:

Wallermama''s asscher set is now a "satin" or "matte" finish and it makes her stone POPITTYPOP.

What do you think of turning the stone? Have the stone sit triangular? Does that make any sense?

You mean like SuzyQ''s (top) ring?

I''m not sure how that would look- some Photoshop is in order.

Exactly, thanks molly1024!

It will still be in a bezel set. Will that work?

I like it without the melee stones. I really like it bezel set with the matt finish.

Who will you have make this for you?

I don''t see why it couldn''t be set in a bezel turned 90 degrees, but it might need some form of support because it will only be attached to the bands at the points which are going to be structurally less sound (less contact area=less stability).

StoneHunter: I''ve got a couple of jeweller''s that I have in mind locally. Unfortunately, I''m in Canada, so I don''t get the pleasure to go to some of the well known online vendors
7.gif
. Even if I could use one of the vendors here, I really don''t think it would be worth it. Hassle, Customs..time...and of course $$.

Molly: I was thinking about the security of the center stone as well. I will ask the jeweller if it can be done.

I''m going to visit a couple of the jewellers today and get a quote. I''ll update you all a little later.

you are in TO, right?? what jeweler do u use, someone in the jewelry exchange?

Hi Sophie,

No, I''m in BC.

here is a pic of my mom''s ring. hers is an emerald but it will give you an idea what it looks like without the melee.

Your idea for a RHR sounds great. Turned on end and with plain matte/satin finish bands. Well, polished would look nice too. ShortBlonde, I love your mom''s ring. The ring kcoursolle posted works really well for a round, but I''m not sure if it would hold a a princess by two of its corners. In any case don''t forget to show us the finished product.

It''s a different shaped diamond, but I do like the clean lines without the pave. (not mine btw. It''s from http://newyorkestatejewelry.com)

Thank you, Kismet. Now, instead of one of us in trouble, there''s two.

I have the original marquise from my er just hanging around in a baggie. I was thinking of things the other day for a right-hand ring for it. Cr@p, you found it.

CDN, I love that ring without the melee. Just clean and simple lines. I think it will be gorgeous. (speaking out because of the EC posted without melee). I also hear you about that darned piggy bank thing.
