Rhodolite garnet

I’m contemplating of buying this.

what do you think? This is a rhodolite garnet with old diamonds surround it. I’ve always wanted a garnet but not familiar with the gem.

please advise. Should I go for it or not?

I think its trully lovelly
but it looks so dark on the video on the finger

Sorry @joelly but in the video the diamonds seem to be as dull as the garnet.

If the seller can't produce a better video than that, something is wrong!

this one is Georgian era. Garnet with pearls in its border.

Sorry to disappoint, but neither of these look rhodolite. Rhodolite is a newer type of garnet, usually a bit purplish in coloration. These are red and dark like almandine, which have been around for a lot longer. Both garnets look dark one with on the finger, so I wouldn't enjoy them.

I think it’s pretty.
It’s typical representation for that period/style - I believe.
Will the closed back rose cuts compete with your ER surround? No, but they shouldn’t be compared, IMO, either.
Whether or not the rose cuts are dirty or need to be cleaned or the enclosed backing/foil is compromised, is hard to tell from these photos.
Much is also dependent on if this is a true antique or a repro. And what the asking price is.
Whether or not this ring suits your desire in wanting a garnet - really depends on what you want to see/own in a garnet?

Don’t wish to comment on the seller claiming it’s a rhodolite. If I wanted the ring for what it actually really is, and at the price it’s at -
In this case the vendor choosing to call it the incorrect variety of garnet for some reason wouldn’t bother me.
