Rework an Art Deco ring?

The good news is that I found a master goldsmith locally back then that was able to increase the size to about 6.5 so that it is wearable for me on my left hand only. So I wear it occasionally instead of my wedding set. But DH and I were talking about a 5-stone anniversary ring for next year, and I got to thinking about finding someone to make this ring into a 3-stone or 5-stone. Am I crazy? I value antique/vintage pieces. And I also think it would be valuable to be able to wear this more often! I’d also love to see a bigger OEC friend plopped right in the middle. Or a very slightly graduated 5-stone? I dream about having David Klass do the ring.

Back when I had little kids I was into high end strollers and I finally sold mine to pay for 2/3 of this ring at auction.... my sister chipped in the rest for my bday/Christmas that year.

I vote to leave the vintage ring as is and let hubby buy you a 3- or 5-stone ring that you can design and have DK execute.

I hate the thought of dismantling something perfectly antique, although when I saw your ring, I thought, "that would make perfect pair of earrings".

Well, I’m a lover and collector of antique jewelery and while the ring is lovely, it’s not “outstanding” in terms of unique setting, styling etc. to me it’s rather “so so, nothing too special” so yes, I’d take the diamonds out and use them in something else more striking in looks and more wearable.

I have to agree. I’m not a fan of a two stone horizontal ring, but if they were intertwined like a bypass ring, even using the baskets your stones are in, I think it would be a lovely redesign!

That would make a kick-ass 3-stone with a bigger friend in an octagonal frame in between the other two... I think the basket/gallery is beautiful

I have to agree. I’m not a fan of a two stone horizontal ring, but if they were intertwined like a bypass ring, even using the baskets your stones are in, I think it would be a lovely redesign!

Nala, I do agree! DH named it “the boobie ring” and if he hasn’t seen me wear it in awhile, he’ll ask for it by name. If I decide to alter it, I would definitely want the original baskets used!

And, BTW, if the boobies were bigger, I probably wouldn’t be posting this thread! The finger coverage is the issue for this design and my finger size... we took it from a 3.75 to 6.5! The little shoulder wisps are the issue with that. In that fantasy ring I’m envisioning, a jeweler will take the wisps and weld/solder them onto the shoulders of the new band.
