Just came across this majestic beauty made by Mathew Ely. It’s a 17ct Ceylonese with argyle pink diamonds.
(I don’t like the pink stones - just the diamonds down the side)... which is a go thing as those pink diamonds are pricey! I wouldn’t want anything sticking out on the side of the stone that could catch on things.
I love the look of this ring. It’s pretty amazing and the stone looks quite deep - which is my stones issue.
How often would you wear something like this? Would you even wear something of this height off your hand?
I know a pendant is safe for the stone but a ring allows me to lovingly adore it while I’m wearing it.

That design is super cool. It would be more like a cocktail ring.... you could wear it everyday if you really wanted to but realistically would you? I think I’d wear something like that for special occasions personally. Good luck, whatever you decide - a great dilemma to have :)

Now I’m looking at Pendants that transform into a ring. Far out someone help me .... this isn’t a rabbit hole ... it’s an endless abyss! Hopefully if I just keep looking the right thing will speak to me. That’s what happened with my ER. My aunt told me when I saw it I would just know it was the one for me and she was right - although I didn’t believe it when she said it as I was totally overwhelmed at the time.

I’m 100% here for this with the pink diamonds. It’s unusual but gorgeous. Someone else said cocktail ring but the right person could rock this as a staple piece that makes a statement. It’s art on your hand/ neck and I’d love to see photos if you do it.

I love the idea of your beautiful stone in a ring! You would really get to enjoy all the wonderful aspects of it in different lights. What could be better?!
I know depth can be an issue, but there must be some style of setting that will accommodate it best.
The setting you shared is really intriguing and unique. Are you drawn to asymmetric designs? I tend to like symmetry overall so I’d be more inclined to look at those styles, but of course everyone is drawn to different things.

I looked through my ring box to see if I have any that sit 10mm off my finger. I have one- a star sapphire. I can tell you that yes it feels slightly high, but I never have felt it’s uncomfortable or prohibitive. I enjoy wearing it and I’m picky when it comes to being comfortable in my jewelry.

It might take some shopping around and trying things out to see how you feel.

I had my convertible done via Asiatique in Singapore. Personally I like the idea - this is actually my second one. I have a huge zircon that’s convertible too. I’m ring size 7.5

For comparison the yellow sapphire here is 7.1 ct and I think sits high but imo looks fine on the finger

Usually I am a massive one for symmetry - and it’s totally possible it would bother me unless it it was balanced out (eg top corner to diagonal bottom corner) - I cant just have something hanging out on its own without it being balanced.
I also already can’t close my fingers next to me ER because it’s so thick and have small hands so it doesn’t give much *play room* on the sides for anything that wasn’t comfortable. My ER already sings around and it’s only a 0.6 ct - it’s the setting that’s heavy.

I’m really loving the idea of a conversation ring now just because I think it would work really well with my lifestyle. (Probs not the bank account though).

Ok this is stunning.
- and I can see how it works really well..
does the pendant attachment (sorry I don’t know the technical term for this) folds under the stone when it’s in ring form?
I don’t know why I had imagined it the other way around ... that the ring loop would fold behind the stone when in pendant form.
Did you have this fully designed for you from scratch?
Is this something you need to find a particular jeweller with particular skills for?
Sorry for all the questions - I have more but will stop there - lol

That ring - pink diamonds and all - is absolutely SPECTACULAR! You can swap out the pink diamonds for white diamonds or sapphires if you like, but I think the ring would look a bit incomplete without it. I also think the asymmetry really works for this ring so I wouldn’t try and make it totally symmetric if you do modify. What gorgeous inspiration!

I agree a ring is better, you can admire it as much as you like then. It’s why I prefer rings.
I would have it fitted to your middle finger on your right hand. That’s the best spot I find for big rings when you already have rings on your left hand.
To be honest, I would just go with a simple setting ie just white gold no extra diamonds. Have the basket and the band milligrain or engraved to acknowledge it’s antique heritage. And I’d go with 8 prongs. Your sapphire is huge and doesn’t need anything extra.
Ringdants are wonderful, I’ve always been a fan of them being the best of both worlds. Any quality bench can make one but you will be talking thousands here in Australia. Business rents, equipment, taxes, hourly rate etc are much higher here than OS.

If you want to go all out design wise, here is my Almond Blossom Opal ring for inspiration.. It’s a 33 carat Opal so it’s a big ring. The “claws” are tree branches set with diamonds.
This is the underneath of my 40carat plus Aquamarine ring and my mammoth Lalique Chameleon ring to show big is best! 142AFC00-0507-462A-9155-E21A3A95BF64.jpeg 7C3CC889-F770-42F6-9129-11F03884F300.jpeg C30B7E26-39C5-4828-B830-36075079C8B7.jpeg

does the pendant attachment (sorry I don’t know the technical term for this) folds under the stone when it’s in ring form? See pics below. I’ve seen other designs where the bail is longer and clips under a longer length of the stone when in ring form. Mine is small and just folds under which is what I prefer anyway.
I don’t know why I had imagined it the other way around ... that the ring loop would fold behind the stone when in pendant form.
Did you have this fully designed for you from scratch? The convertible part is a fairly common design I think. My jeweller has done a few in the past so when I asked he immediately was like yes can be done. But yes for any convertible ring it must be customized so that it fits the stone.
Is this something you need to find a particular jeweller with particular skills for? I think any decent bench should be able to do? But as mentioned my jeweller is quite experienced. Setting is about the same as a usual custom job, maybe 10% more as the setting requires a more gold etc. Less than 2k when I did it but then probably more now that gold prices have gone up

My hp case is black... so everything looks darker :(

I had a cup made for the yellow sapphire, which is why it is higher than usual

You can still see a bit of the bail part sticking out. Doesn’t bother me and when I wear as a ring I put that part facing out so that I don’t see the bail

Barely visible if facing the other side. Bleh at the black hp case again :(

I agree. Simple and elegant and timeless. Or maybe just a bit of simple halo to protect the stone or if the setting requires the “rim”.[/QUOTE]

@Bron357 wow i think that is the biggest ring I’ve seen on PS. I’ll be too chicken to wear a ring like that, worrying that I’ll smash it to pieces...

Far out! @Bron357 to say you have a unique and eclectic collection sure is an understatement!!
That Chameleon is unbelievable.
Your jewellery must be the talking point of every event you attend!
My mother talked me out of my first ER choice because she said it looked fake on me.
So I have always worn understated jewellery. I also don’t change it out very often so prefer to have things that can be worn 24/7. I keep things like my charm bracelet of Givenchy necklace for special occasions - even the necklace to too over the top for me - it has 100’s of gold chains down to your navel. Really great to dress up a plain outfit but always make me feel like it’s just too much.
I often don’t wear any earrings at all - and when I do they are small gold hoops and diamond studs.
I think this is why I liked the original pendant setting so much. It was delicate and had movement.

THIS is a necklace.
Being Aussie you might recognize Susie Elelman. At the 2012 Logies she wore the most amazing necklace.
OMG I was in love.
I spent ages, years even, trying to find out who made it so I might buy one. No luck whatsoever. I figured it was probably a “one off” piece.
Last year browsing eBay .... my heart skipped a beat.... I couldn’t believe it. I pressed the “Buy it Now” button so fast I failed to even register what the price was...oops.
I have worn it, it’s amazing, and it sits out on display.
If you ever need a necklace to stop traffic, borrow this one ha ha A426DE16-242A-418E-A0C9-BB1326060221.jpeg 446132F3-D1C5-4A9E-B6F3-901237303EB5.jpeg 1D94FF3E-B713-4954-8CED-519B936AEFA6.jpeg

Ok - wow..... my first thought was OH the colours! My second thought was *How much does that thing weigh??’
then ‘ Lucky suzy has a good neck for it!’ LMAO
Not surprised that stayed with you....
(Now me with all the questions...)
So you know who made it now and what’s in it??
Stuff politeness - I need to know what you paid - or at least what it’s worth!!?!
How heavy is it?
(Omg I just thought about cleaning it!)

I have large protruding collar bones that wouldn’t let this sit properly across my bony decklotage (being slim isn’t all it’s cracked up to be) - my earlobes can’t handle anything of size either!
Funnily enough I saw Grays online yesterday were selling gems - some were groups of like 80 different coloured tourmalines ... and they had sets of rings and matching pendants in a range of colours - not expensive high quality stones like yours but you could have a lot of fun making your own version of this with all of them.
They also have some very expensive pieces of jewellery with high reserves which they have never had before that I have seen....
(they are also selling off all the designer clothes from David Jones if your interested - they have been doing this for two months).
Please so start another thread on this necklace - and answer all my questions!

why is there not just a thread dedicated to your collection.
What else are you hiding from us???!?
(oh yes - and Thankyou for sharing - Hahahaha)
