How long would you wait to hear back from a vendor about a question you had? I emailed a place 7 days ago asking if they accept colored stones from outside sources. I''m assuming they don''t b/c they use their own diamonds in their settings, and I notice they also have listings for colored gems as well, but I want a stone with a specific cut. However, I want to be sure, so I know if I need to look for a different setting or can still keep this one in mind. Granted, the ring isn''t something I''m planning on doing for a while so it''s not like I necessarily need to know right this second..I just would like to know what my options are, if I need to keep looking or not.

Should I resend my email and see what happens? In February I had emailed them a couple times and my last email question never got a response either. Maybe I ask too many questions!

If someone doesn''t get back to me within 24 hours, I''m a little disappointed, but it''s not the end of the world. If someone doesn''t get back to me by 2 or 3 days, I question their customer service, but I still would give them a chance. If someone doesn''t get back to me in 7 days, I move on, especially if I resent the question more than once. Sometimes emails do get lost in cyberspace, but if you sent an email several times over a period of days, and they don''t respond, I wouldt want to deal with them.

7 days is too long but I''d give them the benefit of the doubt that maybe the email is lost in space. I''d follow up with a telephone call if I don''t get a response within 3 days.

Thanks guys! I guess I''ll either have to resend the email on the off chance it didn''t get to them, or call on Monday..I hate talking on the phone so I was trying to avoid it haha!

I probably wouldn''t give them my business.

It''s been 4 months and I still didn''t get a response from 23rd street jewelers. I ended up going in person and asked them about their email response. They were great in person but follow-up is lacking. They were going to look into a few things for me but I haven''t heard back yet. Typically, I would have followed up but I have been too busy.

7 days is a little long for an inquiry like yours.

I resent tonight, just in case it got lost or overlooked before. Hopefully I hear back from them soon..I hate to be a pest, but even if the answer isn''t what I want to hear, I''d rather know now than have my heart set on something and plan on a specific idea, and then at the last second find out I have to change it.

call on Monday,, ask about your email, if no help from them, I''d move on- you''re patient... I too hate phone calls, email is so much easier for me, hubby is the opposite. good luck though..

I definitely move on if I hear nothing, and a response after seven days is a pretty long time. I listen to my instincts a lot in these. I made an inquiry to planetarygems.com because they had a really nice sky blue sapphire. I heard back after a week and a few days. The vendor ended his reply with "More money, better sapphire". Ummmm, yeah. I moved on...

on this topic, there is one vendor (who most of you would know of) who I have made a number of enquiries with at various stages
about various projects-
after a couple days, I will get a cursory reply addressing my enquiries, and advising to expect to hear back.
and than after that - nothing. silence.

No follow up, not for days, or weeks.
Sometimes I will send a friendly "reminder" or resend the original request, but usually to no avail.

I don''t get it, as I am not a "tyre-kicker" and have purchased before from them and would **like to** again.
I just can''t get anywhere.

Yeah, its very frustrating.
I hate having to feel like you are "hassling" someone to purchase quite expensive items, kwim?

I agree with the several posters who suggested either calling or sending an email to another contact within the company.

Most companies these days are trying to find the balance between keeping their networks secure and still letting inquiry traffic come through, and it's not a perfect system.

Also, if the contact you have at a given jeweler has left, it's possible the email may not be getting through either.

Packrat, I don't know if the jeweler you're trying to reach is local or is a PS vendor, but I'd suggest reaching out to someone you may know is still there to see if they're aware of your prior inquiry. For the PS vendors, most of us have someone present here that you can reach out to if you need help.

I still haven''t heard back from my resent email Sunday night. On one hand, I figure since it''s not a project I can do until next year, it''s not a super big deal to not hear back..but on the other hand, I''d like to know regardless, so I know if I have to look for a different setting. (or on the off chance I can do it sooner) The first couple emails from February were answered by one person, and then they were answered by someone else. There''s just only the one email link on their website. (Caleb Meyer) Who knows, maybe I''m too new at this and ask too many questions! I''d asked if they had hand pictures of the 2 settings I was interested in, and I did get pictures of 1 setting and another similar to the 2nd. (purty purty!) This last email I asked if they specifically had hand pictures of the 2nd setting rather than something similar, and about setting an outside vendors colored stone. I don''t want to seem pushy, you know?

Ack, maybe I''ll have to put my big girl pants on and call Friday when I don''t work.
