Does anyone know of a good jeweler in Boston to resize a platinum solitaire ring? I would prefer to be able to watch the jeweler do the resizing? Thanks in advance for any suggestions!

Contact one of the independent appraisers available via the Resources / Appraisers link at the top of this page and ask them if there are any jewelers in the area that they would recommend or use personally. In my experience, the appraisers usually have excellent knowledge of who does top notch work (and those who should be avoided) in their area.

There are one and two person shops upstairs in this jewelry building where you can have someone do the sizing while you are there. It is not a bad idea to stay and watch. If someone says they can''t do it for you in the way you want it done, try another.

woah, now I''m nervous. Is is that big of a deal to get a ring re sized? My jeweler said it could take a couple of hours. This whole thing has me on edge. I''m still a little pissed that he sold me a size 7 ring when he originally told me it was a 6 and half.

It does not take 2 hours to size a normal ring, but interrupting the flow of work and inserting your rush job into the work flow does interfere with the schedule of the "artist" involved. Some guys don''t mind at all, some have nothing else to do and some will think you are very impertinent to even ask them to assist you. Go where you are warmly welcomed and where they provide you the services you need with a smile. You likely will find a couple jerks before you discover a nice guy to handle this and future jobs for you. This is no different than any other work you may need such as plumbing, electrical or carpenter work. There is a mix of people and you must choose based on how it all feels. Don''t be foolishly trusting. Watch and learn.

Try calling this guy:

George Chapman
387 Washington St.
Room 709
Boston 02108
(617) 542-7965

I walked in off the street at lunchtime during the week and he happily cleaned and re-rhodium plated my e-ring. Such a nice guy, and a big character. He loves to chat! But call first and see if he can accommodate you.
