I have a right hand ring with channel set princess cut diamonds halfway around the shank. I had it resized from a 6 to a 5 1/2 several years ago with no problem, but the jeweler told me if we had gone more than a 1/2 size either way it would have had to be sent back to the manufacturer.
I had one of my channel set rings sized up a whole size. The diamonds were set a bit more than half way around the band. There was a fairly sizable area of solid gold underneath where they could do the sizing. It didn''t comprimise my ring at all. I''ve attatched a pic of the ring. Is your ring anything like that, or do the diamonds go more than half way around the band? Is it like an eternity band? I think those are much more difficult to size, unless they have a little bit of solid gold somewhere in the band.
Channel rings can be succcesfully resized, but there are many factors which limit the extent. Some could be sized a lot and others would fail. It all depends on several factors, not just one or two. SOmetimes the stones stay tight and well set, but the seams of re-sizing still show a little bit. Other times the stones can loosen or chip on another. SOmetimes the jeweler will burn the diamonds turning a couple of them cloudy by overheating them in the resizing process. Usually this does not happen, but it can.
Resizng a channel set ring is a job for someone with experience, not a novice jeweler. Use someone who calims to be experienced and who does not fear doing the job. It isn''t a big deal to do this work, but it needs a competent person to handle it.
What is a reasonable price for a jeweler to charge for resizing a channel set wedding e-ring and wedding band (soldered) together? It will be going from a 6 to a 6 1/3. The channel set diamonds are princess and go across the top of the ring.
