Thanks Packrat,
Regarding my drawings, I used to give them to my clients but I often found that they weren't always wanted or looked after well, about four years ago I started keeping them myself and putting them in albums.
I now have four big scrap books full of thousands of my drawings, I really like flipping through them and remembering the different projects so my plan is to keep the original drawings myself from now on.
I also have a large collection of original hand painted antique jewelry designs from 1900-1960 in another scrap book.
I give my clients either a scan or copy of the drawing and I suppose if I saw that a client was really wanting to keep the original for themselves (so long as they are going to look after it) I could probably be convinced to hand over the original.
I do often like to push the boundaries with my stock work but I would never surprise a client with something really different on a commission, these details will always be worked out during the design stage.
While I'm drawing up the concepts that were asked of me I often also think of original ideas that the client might not have thought of, but that's only a design suggestion so there is no commitment to go that route.
Thanks again all for being interested in my work, if there are any other questions I'll do my best to answer them if I can.
Mike.

Mike, I'd love to see you add more of these drawings to your website or facebook. They are amazing! You should consider publishing them, but then I suppose you run the risk of others stealing your ideas.![]()
Was I correct that you send an album of the process photos to the owners of the piece? I thought that I had read that somewhere.

Packrat--I'm with you! If I had a beautiful drawing of my ring I would have it professionally framed, or at least preserved in some way.
I'm sure they do.Mike R|1339109539|3211460 said:Haven|1339109126|3211457 said:Mike R--Thank you for coming here and sharing. Thanks Haven,
I have a few antique jewellery renderings framed, they look great on a wall.

Looking forward to getting started and enjoying the process..even tho I'm still not certain of a couple things..they'll work themselves out as we go I suppose!
Hopefully I don't cause Mike to pull his hair out!![]()
I've decided it's meant to be. Aus and Nz were my grampa's favorite places in the world, I got my love of stones and jewelry from him and gramma. Gramma will understand the significance and I know grampa would approve.
