Hi All,

I''ve been wanting to reset my ering for a long time now, and my husband gave me the go ahead for our 5 yr anniversary (which isn''t until next Aug., but it''s good to start early!) but with a very strict budget - $1000, which makes things slightly difficult.

I''m hoping to find something much daintier than what I have but still antique (or repro) similar to the ring linked below from antique engagement rings.com. It''s the 6th ring from the top, stock #L1191pl

I''m OK with white gold, too. We''ll be heading home to l.a. for Christmas so if anyone knows of any places there, that would be great, too. I would die for a Singlestone ring but I just don''t think it''s in our budget right now.

Or, I could hold off a little while longer (like a year or two) and wait until we can afford more. Thoughts please!!

Sorry, the link above doesn''t work! Don''t know how to fix it

here is my thought, if you can find something within your budget that totally sings to you, then definitely get it now. But if your dream ring is a singlestone, then maybe wait until your budget opens up a bit because then you will *might* be like me, and always wonder what it could be like with another setting and may regret your choice if you didn't wait? maybe not.

Thanks, D&T. That''s exactly what my fear is...I don''t want to jump in and get anything that I''m just *OK* with, and yet I don''t feel like we''ll ever really be able to afford my dream ring. Just confused right now!

I know exactly how you feel as I have gone through three reset in one year... and looking forward to another one next year...well for another anniversary (DH thinks this will be a yearly ordeal

- I hope I get it right the next time, of course it would be much easier if I could just have five sets....lol.

I agree. If you don''t find something you LOVE just wait. And maybe gold prices will come down by then, that would really bump up what you could afford!

I would definitely wait until I can afford my dream ring setting. $1000 is alot of money to waste on a temporary.

I vote for getting your dream ring. The one you chose is nice though.

I ntotally agree that you either find somthing you LOVE in your budget or wait. If you find somthing that''s kinda what you want and you do sorta like but don''t love, you''re only going to be on a re-set quest again in a years time.

I totally agree with the others, and you should wait and save up a little more for your DREAM ring. I love your ring right now, it''s gorgeous BTW!!!

Thanks to everyone for your responses!

I know in my mind I *should* wait, but I''m just not sure if our budget will ever be enough to get my DREAM ring... that''s why I''m kind of wanting to do it now. I''m also impatient and just want a new ring period, which is not a reason to drop $1000. But like 4ever said, this will probably be only a temporary solution.

Beechezz, thank you for the compliment! It''s always nice to hear

Oh I am sad that you are doing a reset at all. I have always loved the setting you currently have. But, having just done my 5 year dream reset I know that you will be so much happier if you wait until you can get your dream ring.

Oh, how exciting!

Since you''re going to LA soon, head over to 23rd street jewelers http://www.23rdstreetjewelers.com/ . . . I should be attempting to visit ewhen I''m in LA next month, so if I make it by, I''ll post a thread like I did for Richters in Maui.

Thanks, blackberry! That means alot! After hearing everyone''s advice/opinions, I''m definitely leaning toward waiting it out.

Lauren, haven''t heard of 23rd street jewelers but will definitely check them out when we''re home for Christmas. Thanks for the rec!

Don''t want to upset the apple cart

but I was in the same boat as you .... with nearly the same budget. Hubby wanted to change my setting as well, so that helped. So we changed it knowing that if, one day we upgrade to the "dream ring," we''re going to put a birthstone in the current setting to pass down to my girls. Don''t know if that''s an option for you..... But for whatever it''s worth there''s another bit of feedback

^ That''s actually a wonderful idea, marquessa. I mean, who really knows when/if we''ll be able to afford my *dream* ring, so it might not be a bad idea to go ahead with a reset and pass it down to our daughter eventually (she''s only 21 mos. and already likes trying on my rings...yikes!). Either way, we''re def. going to look when we''re back in l.a. You never know, right?!

jfan, I''m chiming in a little late, but wanted to say that your current ring is just beautiful - I''ve always had a thing for antique styles. I too, have been in a similar situation - I upgraded/reset 3 times in 2 years. I think both my jeweler and DH were ready to shoot me, lol. With each new one, I contemplated my options: save for THE DREAM RING, upgrade my diamond just a bit (and purchase a modest setting), or keep my diamond and try to find a setting I loved within my budget.

I think you''ve already gotten some great advice, just take your time in deciding. Lots of us have been through this kind of thing before, so we''re here for you.

And by the way, you don''t need to wait until you get to LA to see 23rd Street Jewelers - Lauren posted the link, check out their fantastic eye candy!

I love the website for 23rd Street Jewelers, but when went to visit them I was so not impressed. The settings are quite thin and delicate in
real life. Not a good delicate, but a not enough metal delicate. Everything looks hugely more substantial in the photos. They were also quite
expensive for what you got. Very small shop as well.

The day I went with my husband, the girl who was helping us had huge boosooms with a very very low cut shirt on. There was very little covered.
Every time she bent over I was sure one of those monsters was going to fly out and smack her in the face. I thought it was really bad taste.

IMHO the website is leaps and bounds better than the store.
