Reset advice, please!

I could really use the advice of the PS community!

I have a lovely carre cut band that I bought with the intention of pairing with my engagement ring (as well as wearing alone). I love step cuts and these carre cuts are just lovely. The problem is that I don't wear the band! I've tried it on a couple of times now and I feel like the channel set band style looks/feels too bulky on my hands (which are on the smaller side). I love the way channel set carre cuts look on other people, but I just don't like it on my hand with or without my engagement ring.

I initially tried to sell it, but after seeing a reset that @gregchang35 posted about in December, I was inspired to explore the reset route. So, PSers, I am calling for your input!

Do you have suggestions on how to set carre cuts to look delicate? I think I've only seen carre cuts in channel set bands so I am wondering what other setting styles would work and the and pros and cons of any options. Any particular jewelers that work with a lot of carre cuts that I should use or look to for inspiration? Would you scrap the whole ring idea and do something else with the stones (necklace? bracelet? earrings? something else?)? Skip the reset and trade it in for something else?

Any additional info about your experiences with resets (such as out of pocket costs) would also be greatly appreciated.

I love your ring and I love it on you!!! When I read your post, I had this vision of some chunky, heavy, tacky ring lol... and then I scrolled down to your photos and was like, “Wow, that’s NOTHING like I was envisioning!” I think you need to take a look at it with fresh eyes. I have a feeling that I’m not the only PSer that will love your ring and think it looks amazing on you and I’m hoping it makes you see it more favorably. I personally love the proportions - it’s actually delicate to me.

I think your ring as a stand alone ring looks great.
also you want to pair it with your ering? Any pics of it.

However, you feel it too chunky in any combination- stand alone or paired.

i can think of 2 ways in which it could look more delicate, without costing a reset.

1) have thinner rails by polishing the outer edges. But you have to check in with a jeweler to make sure that it is safe to do so... not knowing the thickness of the rails will jeopardise the structural integrity of the eternity, and also there is a chance thst the stones are not held in with the correct thickness of metal and the stones will fall out

2) Placing milgrain on the rails. This adds another dimension that can look great. However, you need like milgrain. I love milgrain, but it tends to look odd on my fingers at present.... it needs to grow on me...

if resetting, I can think of
1) semi bezels like my asscher eternity
2) full bezels

both of this will add a different dimension to the ring- having ”gaps” in-between stones.

Also, having milgrain to these 2 types of bezels are possible to achieve a different look.

I don’t habe any pics saved but I love how Erika winter’s “Eternity” bands with milgrain, look: more dainty/ delicate.

to me : carre has the beautiful square shape and channels and bezels as described above tend to show it off well. I am. It sure basket / shared prong settings will do it justice, as they will hide the sharp corners.

As for other jewelry pieces, I can think of a couple of options, but none that I can pictures of, but my mind goes to these options based on what I see in traditional round diamonds.

1) bracelet/ bangle in channel setting all together l- very much like your ring; or you can have them spaced out Over the entire bracket/ bangle
2) earrings- drops either all in a row / next to each other in claw/ basket setting or with a little gap between them- in either bezels or basket settings.

If those options do not work for you- then trade them in for something that you would wear. Life is too short to wear bling that you have! Lol.

Thank you! I think the ring feels bulky to me for two reasons. It feels a little wide because my engagement ring band width is about 2mm and this is a little wider, but also because my fingers are not very long. I think the other part is due to the height of the ring off my finger. I am trying to figure out how much of the height issue is negotiable based on the setting style and how much I just have to live with.

I love my engagement ring so much and may add two stones in the future to turn it into a five stone ring.

If only there were a way to just set the carre cuts so they were just in a row floating on top of my finger with no metal showing.

It can be either way you want it. the design i had in mind was the same as my asscher eternity. but that leaves gaps between the diamonds, and adds another dimension to the stack. here is the link to my asscher eternity - and more pics of my carre befroe the reset. :-0

I think that your band is beautiful and delicate as is. I love it on its own and also really like it with your e-ring! If it were me, I wouldn’t touch it, but maybe wear it a bit more as is so that you can get used to it.

Does anyone have experience with eternity rings (either full or partial) where the prong part is between the stones leaving the top and bottom part of the stones exposed?

I keep researching and haven't really found much inspiration involving carre cuts so I've been using baguettes to analogize. I'm looking for a dainty look with less (ideally no) metal along the outside.

After researching a bit, I've seen some with the horizontal baguettes and either regular looking prongs in between to hold them in place or with some sort of bar in between.

I think I want something like this (but I'm still looking for other options out there) and want to know if anyone has experience (good or bad) with similar settings?

With leaving the tops and bottoms exposed - I am assuming that the bars that you have shown in the inspiration pictures are shorter and skinnier from top to bottom?
If so, this will mean the pointy corners of the carre stones are exposed. This would mean that the corners will be open to damage from daily wear - catch on clothing or chipping of the stones.

so you have to be careful when you wear this type of ring setting.

carre stones are not a common shape stone and therefore examples of settings are hard to find, it doesn’t mean it doesn’t exist. Classically, how they are set are in the ring design that you currently have.

If you are deciding on a reset of the ring in the manner you want as above, it would seem like you would need less stones than what you have.

If no metal to show, then ask the jeweler about invisible setting. But there will still be metal on the borders- still channel type style.

but definitely approach the jeweler to guide you with the setting.

I think those are actually going to look chunkier than a more delicate channel or bezel setting would. I think you could have DK or maybe CVB reset it and get something where the metal edges are much smaller and it is set lower.

It's tough to see for sure but it looks like the bars sit flush with the stones to me. I think I would be fine with that, except I would want the bars to be a bit narrower to look like there is less metal between the stones (if that is possible). Good reminder above about not wanting the corners exposed to avoid damage.

I don't know what these prongs are called, but it looks like the corners are protected.

Does anyone know what they are called? Could these types of prongs be used to set the stones in a partial eternity band?

Thanks for everyone's input so far! A ring is my first choice so I'm just trying to explore all ring options before possibly moving on to something else.

They are chevron prongs, I think. Or v shaped prongs.

masked the jeweler that you are working with if they can do this type of work.

also by doing this, you will also see lots of gaps between the stones, due to the prong work.
