Researching stone like crazy; what about the setting?

Thanks for all the great advice from everyone here. Has been so helpful, and I really appreciate it. I'm hoping for some advice on a setting.

I've done tons of research to select the "right stone," and am getting close to a decision. I spoke to numerous B&M and online vendors, had staff gemologists pull stones and review them side-by-side, asked good questions, asked stupid questions, etc.

I'm happy with the eventual conclusion: I feel I'll select the stone with the best possible cut (it's going to be an ACA or BGD Signature) and carat, color and clarity specs to my liking.

However, I'm totally lost when it comes to the setting. I'm spending so much time splitting hairs (which probably don't matter - but given the $, I'll keep splitting) to pick the highest quality diamond - but how do I find the highest quality setting?

Do I just select a setting from where I buy the stone (Whiteflash or BGD)? I'm not sure I *love* any of them. While their diamonds are outstanding, do their settings truly represent the best of the best? If not, where do I go for a setting?

I recognize of course that the *style* of the setting is a personal decision. I do know roughly what I'd like. I am primarily focused on a) thinner bands (around 2-2.2mm), b) diamond pave band, and c) platinum. I just wonder if it makes sense to look beyond my eventual diamond vendor to see the full universe of options. For some background, my favorites at those two vendors now are:

Whiteflash Legato Micro Pave: http://www.whiteflash.com/engagement-rings/diamond-settings/legato-micro-pave-diamond-engagement-ring-1012.htm

BGD: http://www.briangavindiamonds.com/engagement-rings/pave-and-side-stones/novela-platinum-5372p

I'm willing to spend a little more to get an outstanding setting... after all, I'm devoting so much time to finding the right stone, but the ring is like 80% of what you see even though it's a fraction of the cost.

Finally, if I get a setting from a different vendor, what are the logistics to put stone and ring together?

White flash and Brian Gavin have some of the best settings out there. Honestly, I would make it easy on yourself and get stone and setting from the same vendor. So much less hassle and saves time and money. Both do custom, too, so if you like a setting but want tweaks, they can do what it takes to make you perfectly happy.

I have had several outstanding pieces made by Victor Canera recently. All you have to do is have your diamond vendor insure and ship it to him directly. He can work w/ you on a custom piece that will be completely hand-forged and well worth the wait! I had this one made w/ additional diamonds on the cup for my future sister-in-law:
