Hii,

I've been looking to get an upgrade eng ring with lgd, and been reading on web about tables, depth, ratio, and CA PA. We didn't know any of this at the beginning so my original dia ring is pretty dark :cry2:

I learnt that table should be between 55-58, depth between 60-62, medium thick facet, ratio close to 1, fluorescence none, and CA PA being close to 34.5 and 40.75.

I found this diamond from Ritani last night, and since it seemed to fit the description I read I ordered it, then came to pricescope. Upon searching for lab diamonds,,, am finding articles mentioning hearts& arrows, blue nuance (I still don't understand what this is), cvd and hpht :eek2::eek2: There seems to be a lot more to check.

I went back to Ritani to check on the diamond I ordered, but the video is no longer available; I guess because I purchased it so they removed from site.

Would you be able to advise if this diamond is good to get, or I should cancel and search for another?

If not the above one, is this better?
Slightly smaller

Hard to say anything about transparency, but the proportions on both are text book!

I like these a bit better. The first is HPHT, and the others appear to have fewer striations than the 2.14 you posted.

Thank you so much for your advice and recommendations @Garry H (Cut Nut) and @Kim N !!! I definitely didn't knew about transparency nor striations until you me tioned it >< I looked up and learnt now
I should study more before buying things;;;

@Kim N After looking up the striations and HPHT you advised, I went into look at the HPHT lab diamonds. I found two very similar ones with slight differences in CA&PA. Out of curiosity, which would you say is the better one out of these two?

Is first one better because CA&PA is exactly at 34.5 and 40.8 (Second one is 34.5 and 40.6), and has less red markups than the second on on the certificate(was written as "growth remnants")?

Or is second one be better as it seems to have less of dark spots(?) inside compared to the first one on the photo? I can't seem to still understand the blue nuance though :< will continue reading

Ahh so I understood completely oppositely:oops: I thought .75 or .8 would be much better than .6or lower...
Really! O,O which specification should I be looking at to check for the dirtiness or the stone? Is this the same thing as when you mentioned transparency?

I prefer the E. The D may have subtle blue nuance. You can usually see this by looking at the profile view towards the edges of the crown. I also like the cut precision of the E better (fewer dark spots between the arrow bases as you pointed out). I wouldn't worry about inclusions in a VVS, or even in a VS1.

The Tolkowsky ideal proportions are 34.5/40.75, so you aren't wrong that 34.5/40.8 is closer to Tolkowsky ideal. Garry's saying that when a diamond is dirty--which is most of the time--34.5/40.6 will outperform 34.5/40.8.

Ahhh got it Thank you for advising where to look to catch the nuance and clarification on angles too!=)2=)2

It is a fact that a slightly shallower pavilion angle causes substantially less leakages when grease which lowers the RI at the second pavilion interface of light entering the crown, ( thru the outer table region in reverse) results in seeing the gunk in crown and outer table areas.

It might be taken. It says hold. Anyway. Just looking.

Didn't think this one looked hazy in the video, but I'm happy to stand corrected, if it is.

If it is graded SI1 but looks like VS then there is a reason. Graders know their business.
I always prefer to find an "honest" stone in its grade as that way you avoid issues. That 360 is not high enough resolution to see any clouds or intenral graining.
The only exception I allow is twinning which is usually graded too harshly.
