Hi! Thanks to this forum, I learned about Esty and DanielM. When Hubby told me to choose something for my Christmas present, I decided to make a 'family necklace' with Daniel's bezel sliding pendants. All was going great until Caren asked me what order do I want the bezels to be placed. Could I ask for opinions on the arrangement? I know you all get it when I sit here worrying about getting this right. I will be getting the following:

amethyst (me, Feb)
peridot (DD1, Aug)
pink topaz (DD2 sub for Oct)
citrine (DH, Nov)

I've considered going in the same order as above, which order of our birth months: It also has me and DH on the outside, as if holding our little family within?

I've also considered switching the girls, so that the colors go purple, pink, green, yellow, which seems to be a nice flow

Or, going by our ages: yellow, purple, green, pink.

Any one have an opinion or idea? Thanks so much for any help! Sometimes it's the little things that really trip me up.

From a purely aesthetic standpoint; purple, yellow, green, pink. Does that do anything for you?

It would be "mommy met daddy, and had baby one and baby two".

I know how it is to have weird niggles about jewelry. I had a hard time setting my sapphire because the halo had 12 stones, and the middle stone would have been the 13th stone. That wigged me out, so I "had" to go up to the bigger diamonds, and ended up with an 11 stone ring. Which is my lucky number!

Thank you iLander. I like the order you suggested, that would be pretty. And, I like your take on the birthstone story.

Good to know I'm not the only one who gets hung up on these things. While I worry over the line up of stones, my husband, if I asked him, would just be shaking his head. Which is why he lets me pick out my own gifts!

LOL, I think most of us can identify with that. Put up a photo when it's ready, please -- I'd love to see those stones together!

Is the Peridot very saturated and neon/vibrant? Is the pink topaz and baby pink? If so, you've got 2 strong colours together Amethyst and Peridot and then two weaker colours, pink topaz and citrine.

If that's right then I'd change it so it was darker / vibrant on the inside with lighter stones on the edges. So my suggestion would be:

Pink Topaz
Amethyst
Peridot
Citrine

I realise that completely messes up all your lovely thought processes (sorry)! I'd love to see the colours together though because it's difficult to suggest unless seeing all the stones together.

I bet it's going to be lovely whatever order!

I am not good with matching up colours to go with a specific meaning but have a fair idea about colour combinations. Do you have any pictures of the 4 stones? There are many colour variations of amethyst, peridot, pink topaz and citrine that it affects their line-up. In the ideal situation where the colour is strong, my preference is pink, purple, green, yellow.

Are we allowed to post a link to an Esty listing? I hope so. This picture shows the amethyst and peridot, among others. They are getting me a pink topaz for October. I'm waiting to hear from Caren about the tone of the topaz. I don't think the citrine is shown, either, unless that orange stone is it, but I'm assuming it will be the usual citrine color?

eta: Although I was thinking about meaning, I think that mostly, I should think about the presentation. Every one will be represented, that would be most important, right? Ugh. I could just take DH and me out, leaving just the peridot and topaz, but i think four will look better than two. I know, thinking too much, right?

Mmmmm okay well reading the advert something has jumped out at me. Are you getting a pink topaz (ie pale baby pink) OR is it a mystic pink topaz (that can be screaming colour and have a coating that makes it look like it has lots of colours going on)?

Can you ask them to send you photos of your colour combination together or are they sourcing some of the stones for you?

I love the idea of symbolism but presentation can make a big difference AND as you say, you will all be represented in the necklace.

Okay, so to answer LD's questions: They are sourcing the stones for me. They are getting me a pink topaz, which Caren describes as medium pink. I'll see if I can post the picture she sent me. Caren recommended against using the mystic pink because it is iridescent, which would look strange against the other stones. I agree and was glad she gave me the option of going with the regular pink or a pink tourmaline, but that would increase the price and I want to keep this project within a smaller budget. The amy and the peridot should be close to those in the link, and the citrine should be like the earrings you see in another item on their listings.

Based on the bezel pendants, I like it as shown because one colour flows into the next seamlessly as per the colour wheel. So it is pink, purple, green, yellow or the reverse.

iLander, JewelFreak and Chrono,

Thank you ALL for your input, each of you have such great ideas, all of the line ups would work beautifully. Last night, Caren contacted me to say that the pendants were done, and had I decided on an order? I slept on it, and this morning she contacted me again, to say that Dan had put it together, and she had made the final listing for payment, but they would be happy to change the order for me before shipping. So, this is what he did:

And, I love it. That was iLanders suggestion, I believe, so kudos, for thinking like Dan ;)
If I can figure out how to post a picture, I will when it arrives, but in the meantime, their pictures are probably better. More importantly, thanks so much for the assistance. Of course, now, without even getting the necklace, I want earrings to match...in each of the colors!!!

This looks fabulous! If you need help figuring out how to post pictures with neck shots for us...you know where to find us! ::)

That is a very "strong" layout and stands out. Can't wait to see neckshots.

Yay! It's the perfect combo, what a lovely necklace!!
I can't wait to see neckshots, it's a beautiful piece for a mother.

It came today, and I couldn't be happier with it :cheeky:
Thanks to you all for your ideas, it's fun to have a community that doesn't think I'm crazy over 'just a necklace.'
Double crossed fingers I manage to get a few pictures to post....

And, yes, now I want earrings!

It's beautiful on you!

Gorgeous! The colors flow to the next very well and the workmanship on it looks great!

Such a sweet necklace!

Thank you, Rosebloom, pandabee and Chrono. In person, the colors are even better. On my monitor, the citrine and pink topaz look to be similiar, but in they are distinctly golden and pink. I think that's more clear in the white towel shot.

I'm home sick today, so I'm sitting around in my pajamas. I'm thinking they need a little something...like a pretty little gemstone necklace? That should perk me up!

What better drug free "pick me up" medication than wearing and admiring your new necklace? :naughty: I hope you'll feel better soon.
