Republicans Want To Collect Your Personal Information

The Republicans have slipped something very frightening into their proposed healthcare bill that is supposed to replace "Obamacare". They are, of course, total hypocrites who are trying not to replace any care. But this is far sneakier than cutting people off health care. They are trying to undo the work of several privacy laws on which the people of this country have come to depend, and they are doing it on the sly.

They will, if this bill passes, make it legal for your employer to test you for your genetic information. They will, then, be free to sell this. The bill, if it is passed, will void provisions of The Americans with Disabilities Act and the genetic Information Nondiscrimination Act. The republicans claim to want to protect privacy and individual liberty, but not when corporations can be making some money off the masses. It's called hypocrisy.

"... two older, milestone laws don't allow these wellness programs to include genetic testing: the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and the 2008 Genetic Information Nondiscrimination Act (GINA). These laws bar employers from even asking workers to undergo a genetic test."

The dems opened the door by letting employers pry more and more into peoples lives in the first place.
They are just as much to blame.

Between that and the fcc considering allowing isps to sell peoples browsing data to advertisers its nutzo how quickly 1984 is becoming a reality just a few years late. If anyone thinks the dems are any better they need to wake up.

Nooo you can't blame this on the democrats. No way. Prove your statement that democrats allow more prying. And we don't need any Dimbart or Daily Liar to debate this. Facts, not our interpretation of facts, seguing etc. How the democrats allow the republicans to pry more into our lives AND why would the republicans go farther, are they not the party of PERSONAL FREEDOM! States rights. blah etc. You would think the tools who run the tea party/conservative/what'sleftofrealrepblicans would be running to change any open kimono laws.

Easy to do:
"The Affordable Care Act creates new incentives and builds on existing wellness program policies to
promote employer wellness programs and encourage opportunities to support healthier workplaces.

Well, from what I can tell, this allows employers to increase incentives for healthy behaviors/outcomes for employers. There is legislation not to discriminate. The new Repub plan sounds like it opens the door for employers/healthcare plans to discriminate against policy holders, even on genetic data. Do you trust your employer with your genetic data? I don't.

Very scary IMO.

My husband got paperwork a couple of years ago that his employer would deduct $500 off his health insurance premiums for the year if he went through a health screening including a blood test. This was with BCBS, I told him, no way was he doing that, Blue Cross claimed it was so they could make helpful suggestions that would benefit his health. Nope, not buying that, sure it starts as offering an incentive to get the screening and then down the line who is to say that same information can't be used against you.

The less they know, the better, same with the government.

I accept health screening (blood pressure, cholesterol testing, BMI) to get a discount off my premiums but I will NOT share any genetic info.

The lie sounds good when you are told it is to help the country become healthier which in turn will drive health insurance premiums and costs down. Even using it as a means to bully you "Don't you want Americans healthier?" "If you don't do this you are part of the problem." "If you want the extra $ in your check you have to conform."

NO thank you. The government needs as little of my information as possible. Which is also why I will never succumb to the fanciful advertising of 23andme or Ancestry.com DNA hullabaloo either. Soda tax is another one.

The loss of liberty folks, one teensy step at a time.

The financial penalty for failing to do so if the American Health Care Act (aka TrumpCare) passes may be very steep. I am wondering just how steep.

We are in accord, red. I find this chilling.

Wow that IS pretty scary. I never did the DNA testing because of all the loopholes they have with it. Don't want that info going anywhere lol.

And seriously wtf to the: "but the dems did bad stuff first"

I agree. I have never purchased anything on line or even searched for my condition.

Yet,for years, I have constantly been getting emails about diabetes. How can you blame it on Trump?

It is dems that have done soda tax and no big gulps, etc. They are just as bad at telling you what is good for you and taxing accordingly. :D

Might as well make the cold civil war of words and ideology into a hot one, eh?

I was thinking about it today as I read that Scotland will vote again to leave the UK. I remember that two years ago I thought it would be terrible if that were to happen. After the Brexit vote and everything Theresa May I think Scotland and Norther Ireland should vote to leave, and try to join the EU on their own. And then I realized that we in Amerikkka too, would be well served to sever our ties with the 48% majority.

I am an East Coaster that would stay with the middle part of the country where its most hard working and self sufficient population lives.

When you say "we" who are you talking about? The coasts or the heartland? How are we supposed to know? This is way too confusing. :loopy:

What state are you in?

I am currently living in Connecticut, where I spent almost all of my life. However, my legal residence is in Virginia where I own a home with my husband.
