Ditto. I once had a 24k bangle bracelet come off my hand while I was a passenger on a motorcycle! Fortunately we were stopped at the time (at a bridge toll booth, as I recall) and I was able to find it.
Removing a few links from the bracelet should not cost that much. I’d get it done before wearing the bracelet again, and then maybe start thinking about whether and how to re-purpose the extra links!
I agree, if you can slide it off without unfastening it, then yes, you should have it shortened. I'm sure you can come up with something to do with the extra.
Concur with the others in that if you can slip it onto your wrist without having to undo the clasp, then there is a risk of the bracelet sliding off without being noticed!
Save them for then next owner! That's what my Mom did for a bracelet that was passed along to another family member. She even did this for a 70s gold bracelet with big, chunky links that would have been impossible to "match" later.
