Hey everybody,
I''m hoping that someone can help me out with this question. I spoke with a local jeweler about replating my wife''s engagement ring. Her setting is made from platinum but the prongs are white gold-I was told this would reduce the risk of losing the stone since gold is a stronger metal than platinum. Now, the white gold has "warmed" to yellow, which causes the center diamond to look more colored than it is.
He said that he would replate the entire ring, not just the prongs, and that when the plating wore off-the platinum would show through. Is this standard practice? I really do not want the platinum covered up by the plating, especially since my wife loves the way the platinum looks now. Is it unreasonable to think that a jeweler would/could only replate the prongs on the ring?
Thanks!
