I don't know if any of you remember this thread where I mentioned a huge ebay war over a violet/blue tourmaline of very rare color.
Well, it's really a spinel. The ebay seller relisted it and certified it, however he/she forgot to remove the information about tourmaline in the listing.

Here is the original thread where the stone ended up going for around $2,000. YOu can see the original listing link in that thread.

Here is the new listing

I just love finding this type of stuff on ebay!

Random. I especially enjoy how it still has "Tourmaline" all over the info section. They kind of suck at this.

See I just don''t trust myself to really notice inconsistencies like that initially - so ebay would be so bad for me

Good job on finding that TL!

It now shows a cert listing it as spinel but the info text is a tourmaline.

Wouldn't spend $2K on it...I wonder why it came back?

It was also originally listed with an origin in Africa (I think Tanzania), and the seller went out of his/her way to talk about this new rare color of Tanzanian violet/blue tourmalines. Now it's from Sri Lanka!

My first thought was that she/he is using the same photos for stones that are similar. But I guess whoever paid $2000 ( if thats really the case) decided to have it certified and was upset it wasn''t a tourmaline and returned it.

Well whatever the case, I think this is a good example where certification is important, especially when buying some expensive colored gem from ebay.
