Hello O''wise Pricescopers

I''m on the hunt for something very special. My hubby and I dedicate all of our spare time to rescuing dogs. Animals have always been extremely precious to me, and tonight, while chatting over dinner DH stated that even if things hadn''t worked out how they have (use being together for 13 years and married for 9 years) he is glad that I opened his eyes to the needs of the animals that we rescue - it was very sweet, he stated that because of me he has an appreciation for animals that he didn''t realize a person could have... that just made my heart pitter patter.

So, that leads to the question. I would LOVE to get us each a St Francis of Assisi (patron saint of animals) jewelry item, but I don''t want the typical medalion, I''d like something contemporary (and this is going to sound really strange to some, I''m sure - so please forgive me for the possible confusion this might cause) - we are not religious individuals (meaning we do not follow a specific and prescribed faith) that''s why I want to stay away from the typical Catholic medalion.

Would anyone happen to know of something or have a suggestion? I''ve looked around for a bit this evening and will continue to do so over the next few days - I''d like to do this for Valentine''s day.

Thanks everyone!

HAVe you thought about the possibility of a ring for him and possibly a bracelet for you?

I have seen rings for men before with antique coins (which would look quite similar) in them and I think they look quite nice :)

Other then that I am fairly stumped

The idea sounds wonderful though :)

St. Francis is normally depicted with doves, could you go that direction and get something with doves to represent St Francis without having the typical medalion?

Thank you so much for the ideas! I have found a few lovely scotty and westie charms, I''m looking for some nice doves to round it out - since we put our effort toward dogs (cairns to be extremely specific) I''d like there to be an identifiable association with that species.

Thanks again! I''ll let you know what I come up with before the bow gets tied around the box.

The only St. Francis anything I've found are the typical Catholic medallions.

Something Silver does carry a lot of medallions and really unique things (some of the bird charms were girly) but the medallions by Pyrrha are taken from 19th century wax seals... they're pretty kewl. It might be worth it to search through their products.

ETA: they're more of a medallion than a charm like on a charm bracelet, though they do carry the charms as well

Hello Jypsie,

Check out www.PreciousPetsMfg.com

I''m a dog person, and was looking for large Mastiff pendant, to wear on a gold omega. I''ve been to numerous vendors at different dog shows, and wasn''t pleased with the quality or likeness to the breed. Then, searching the net, I found the above website. I wound up with a beautiful 14k - large - solid, well made Mastiff pendant which I love. Each piece is custom made to order, and they customized the size of the bail (which is actually the dog leash) to accomodate my specific omega. Loni was a complete pleasure to deal with, and was so patient in understanding my needs. She was so excited about my project, that she put in a very small black diamond chip for the eye, and did it gratis (no additional charge).

They specialize in breed specific and custom designs, and their prices are reasonable (not inexpensive, but certainally reasonable). I believe they work in gold & plat., but I think they may do silver too, but I''m not sure about that.

Consider looking them up, and if you do, feel free to tell them that the lady who they did the mastiff for recommended them (after seeing their work, I emailed them that I would recommend them to my dog show friends.)

Good luck!!!!! And I think it''s wondeful that you do rescue.... I''m involved with a club that does Mastiff rescue...The dogs are lucky to have you and your husband! - Margar.

Meche makes a line of dog and cat charms and their work is fabulous. They carry just about every AKC breed and some generic doggie-related jewelry items such as a doghouse, bone, etc. One of our local jewelry stores has their rep come in for a trunk show twice a year and donates a portion of the proceeds to the SPCA. The last time they were here, I saw a St. Francis charm, depicting him with a dog. They also have a lovely charm that is heart-shaped with a paw-print imbossed in the middle that I think is very representative of what you do with your rescue activities. (I''ve included a photo, which does not do it justice. I have one and it is very nice.)

Their website is here. I checked and did not see the St. Francis charm, but perhaps there is a store local to you that may carry their line.

Thank you for all you do to help the animals!
