Recuts and inclusions

Should a recut only be performed on a clean stone? Specifically, I'm talking corundum.

That depends on the type and location of any inclusions. If a recut would position an inclusion so that it would weaken some area of the stone that might be easily damaged, then it may be best to avoid doing the recut or changing the cut design so that any inclusions are deep enough not to affect the durability of the stone. Do you have a picture of the stone and inclusion?

Sapphire often looks great even with inclusions. There's no answer to this in the absract, though. A cutter would have to look at the stone and assess the possibilities.
