Hi all~~~

I would really loved to have you guys expert opinion if a recut of this stone, which has a tiny window at the bottom, will improve its brilliance

This stone has bugged me for awhile on that narrow line of extinction running through the center and two end, Im wondering if this is caused by the dark tone of the stone or being a cut issue?

Please help me to decide if I should go for a recut x(

Others with far more expertise than I will weigh in, but I say at least inquire about it. There are the risks of breakage and loss of that beautiful color, but send video and dimensions to a good re-cutter and get their opinion. If they think they cannot improve upon it, or there is not enough material to do so, they will tell you. You can make a better informed decision from there.

Thanks and regarding this, Im also having difficulty in locating a reliable non US labidary at the moment, as it is not feasible for me to send anything to US due to the import tax charge..

Did you see this post from a few years ago? It has some non-US recommendations.

Thanks! Ill take a look. On a side note I noticed Gene has mentioned that its often quite troublesome to rework a stone for slight improvement, guess thats the reason why the cutter I met locally often recommend me against modifying a stone’s cutting….

No doubt--it would not be cost effective for him as well. There are some stunning examples of recuts that really improved the stone's look on this forum though. I think it is all a matter of there being enough material to work with, and knowing what precise cutting issue is causing the extinction. Hopefully you will be able to get a few professional opinions, from lapidaries that are excellent at recutting. Lots of people can cut a stone, but recutting is quite specialized. Maybe Gene will see this and give an opinion as to what is feasible.

Dan Stair is also an option if you want opinions. I know he’s still doing recuts.

Yea I have engaged him in the past and the outcome is great. But unfortunately he is located in the US so it will be a trouble for me to send the stone now due to tariffs issues (I hope this is over soon)

Gonna sound crazy but I love the cut of that stone. Before getting seriously into gems, I preferred the ones with extinction because it made the colours look very rich, through contrast. I still like that look in deep blue sapphires, it's like looking into deep space, or looking at velvet.

Oh goodness, nooooooooo! Don't touch him... he has a lovely cut, IMO. The only thing I would say is, yes, his tone is a little darker than my preference. And so you'll always have a touch of extinction. But my taste in tsav isn't necessary in line with trade ideal either. In the words of Mrs. Doubtfire, "I like 'em light and woody!"

We have to find a green you consider a "her"! haha! But yes, this one I can see is clearly a he.

Right, why do I see all blues and greens as boys?
