Where would you recommend someone look for a ~1.3 ct eye clean, round brilliant Lab diamond to be set in a yellow gold engagement ring setting? Great light performance is priority.

Adiamor or Frank Darling.
Look at their GCAL 8X graded diamonds options.
Got a budget in mind for just the diamond?

I don't even have a clue about lab diamond pricing! What does a beautiful, sparkly, engagement ring stone of that size go for?

Hi, @dawn117 . It will depend on the specs (clarity, color, etc).
Here are some examples:

1.50 D VS1 GCAL 8X
$3100

1.38 D VS1 GCAL 8X
$2100

1.86 E SI1 GCAL 8X
$2900

1.68 F VS2
$2600

Thanks so much! How do you set the specs to select the GCAL 8X stones? What does that stand for/mean?

You're welcome.
I just search through all diamonds filtered for GCAL grading lab on their sites, then start going through them.
Thankfully, most of what they carry now meet the GCAL 8X criteria:

The setting she's interested in comes from James Allen. Better to buy stone and setting separately?

James Allen has a very broad inventory of LGD.
A bit on the higher side for pricing, but there are many sellers that are higher priced.
Here are some examples that would likely lean towards more fire/dispersion:

I didn't see any with the GCAL 8X on the James Allen site. How do you look for well cut sparkly stones?

I check the proportions and angles on the grading report and look issues that may impact overall performance in the rotational view.
Which setting is the target?

Because of the large price difference between James Allen and Adiamor, I would recommend buying the setting and stone separately in this case. Even with a setting fee, you would come out ahead.

This one is one of my favorites, and only $1990.

Or this one at $1820.

That's a really cool setting!
Going to be a stunning piece with an icy white diamond showcasing it!

Found a few others to peek at...I really like the looks of the 1.40 E VS1. Are any of the diamonds in budget for you?

The 1.34 E VS2 is also available at Frank Darling for only $1720, though I just realized it has an inclusion on the table.

Are the angles and proportions to look for in a lab diamond the same as for an earth-mined diamond? I'm guessing they are, but just checking.

Exactly the same.

This stone, being on sale, comes somewhat close to the 1.40 D VS2 from Adiamor.

Thanks very much for your help! I have turned all the info over to the person who asked me to investigate! Always appreciate the knowledgable folks on this forum!
