Recommendations for Jeweler in ACT, Australia?

Hi All,

I'm sourcing a diamnod online from JA and looking to find a local jeweler to help create the setting for it. I'm looking for the classic Tiffany 6 claw engagement ring design - I would imagine this is probably a fairly common design.

Any suggestions? Happy to travel to Sydney for it if it's likely to get a better design/quality.

Much appreciated.
Giles

Giles, I use a great manufacturing jeweller in Sydney that I would be happy to recommend. They made my engagement ring, our wedding bands, a lovely sapphire and diamond right hand ring and some lovely diamond earrings for me and I am working with them on another pair of earrings. All of my projects have required a great deal of skill and I have been very happy with the results.

They are in the same building as the Westpac bank, opposite Chanel. You'll need to ring and make an appointment.

Hi,

Have you thought about purchasing a stone from JA and purchasing a Tiffany style setting from Brian Gavin and then getting someone in Australia to set it for you?

I did that for a couple recently and it looked amazing.

Hi, no I haven't ... I had a quick look at their site and they seem to more tailor towards a full package of setting + diamond, and I didn't get much of a sense of there being a setting only option? Maybe I just missed it.

Is Brian Gavin quite a reputable ring manufacturer?

the challenge I have is that nobody seems to really nail the Tiffany style. The claws on the Tiffany style setting seem to be very delicate, where as most replicas I've seen (granted, only online) seem to be a bit more clunky / chunky. I'm not sure if that's me just being too picky or to an untrained eye, or if it is actually hard to reproduce that style.

I sold a round brilliant that I had to a couple in Sydney (I live in Brisbane) and she was adamant she wanted a Tiffany that looked like Tiffany.

Here in Australia most of the jewellers that you go to have pre-stocked Chinese made Tiffany repos that do NOT look like genuine Tiffany rings. I purchased a Brian Gavin setting (the expensive one not the cheap one) for the couple and got the stone set and hey presto it DID look like a genuine Tiffany.

The knife edge that looks exactly like Tiffany is this one;

This one looks like a Tiffany but is rounded so more comfortable (that is the theory anyway);

And this is another version that is very popular too;

I had NO problem at all purchasing a setting from them. If you want the email address of the person I deal with I can give it too you.

I've read this also comes close;

These guys also do "Tiffany Inspired Rings"

I've purchased the Brian Gavin one and it is the closest I have ever seen to the real thing.

If you are purchasing the stone from JA for a fee you can send it to Brian Gavin and they will set it for you. Or you also might be able to buy a setting and send it to JA to set it for you (just ask them).

Just make sure you are 100% certain you want the stone if you do it that way.
