Recommendations for Bulletproof Vest?

I'll need to be fitted for one, and then three more for little kids ages 3, 5, and 8. The three year old likes princesses and Doc McStuffins, so we would probably want to go custom. We plan on seeing a Christmas show in the city this year so I'm planning ahead for another potential holiday massacre. Or maybe I should be shopping for a hand gun in case there's already an active shooter? Or maybe the whole audience can just pick up a gun in the lobby.

HC is right as far as vests when talking about rifle rounds. Most, if not all, only protect from pistol calibers.
Would a vest protect from rifle round in a Vegas type shooting? I know nothing about velocity of rifle fire but there was some distance which would theoretically slow the rounds.

I imagine for anything close up, a shooter would aim for the head making a vest useless. But then again, aim may not be the strongest point for these shooters. Except for that Baltimore guy, who I believe was a retired sniper.

There is a level IV of body armor that does pretext against rifle fire, but I don’t know about multiple rounds or anything.

I think that if gun companies are going to continue to manufacture automatic rifles, they should also have to start offering body armor that protects people against those weapons. I don’t give a damn about laws and regulations. We have antivenom for snake bites and we use the snakes’ venom for that...just sayin’.

Who knows if it would have protected the people in Vegas. I think the whole idea is silly and that monnie was being sarcastic in her OP anyway.

My mind is on a loop...
I can legally purchase a rifle that is capable of tearing through a bulletproof vest.——>I can’t legally purchase a bulletproof vest.

There is nothing wrong with this picture...There is nothing wrong with this picture...

OP may have been sarcastic @redwood66 but I bet many of us have thought the same watching the news. I'm sure that armored/bulletproof clothing will be the next big trend as mass shootings become an everyday occurrence in US.

I am sorry that people feel that way but I refuse to let a tragedy like this dictate how I live my life or live it in fear. If my number is up and God decides it is time, then there is nothing I can do about it other than be grateful for the life I have lived and hope I managed to help others while doing it. Anything else adds stress that is not worth having. You are more likely to die in a car accident, get cancer, or a whole host of other things than be shot/die in a "mass shooting." I view a "terrorist" attack in the same way.

If what you say is correct about the next big trend then it is an opportunity for companies to make tons of money from a fearful population.

I made the same remark to my husband last night (about how we'll all need vests) but he pointed out that the risk of being killed by a distracted or otherwise-impaired driver is much higher.
Sadly, he's right.

Because it makes much more sense to buy bullet proof vests for our children and pray then it does to take steps and work on banning the types of guns and magazines that help create these tragedies.....

Oh don't worry, the law of averages says one of the daily mass killings won't happen to you :appl:

Don't live in fear, just buy more guns!

Uh, Redwood? The gun manufacturers rely on a fearful population to make money. Just like religious organizations rely on fear tactics like "hell" to make money.

Buying a bulletproof vest is actually me NOT living in fear. It's me admitting that guns are never going away, there will be no gun reform, there will continue to be more and more mass shootings, and that I have to continue to try to live my life anyway. I already fear going to concerts, ball games, any event there are a large number of people gathered, since September 11th. I started having to talk myself into attending events with having a couple drinks first YEARS ago. I would really like the small amount of peace of mind a bulletproof vest might offer so I can continue to see the bands and teams I love. I'd rather NOT live in fear, and I feel a vest would alleviate some of my fear. If instead I bought a gun, I'd be buying into the fear that I'd better arm myself so I can defend against a shooter. So needless to say I feel that your logic is back asswards. (With all due respect.)

Monnie we are all have different views on what we are fearful of. My post was not meant to be disrespectful to you it is just my POV. Sorry if I offended you. :(2

I’m not offended, Red. Was just explaining myself. I know we see the issues differently and are coming from different points of view.
