Guys, I have no idea where to start looking for my newest wardrobe accessory--a bulletproof vest. Should I buy online? Do I need to have one custom-fitted? I feel like there aren't many choices for women.

I got stuck in a Kohl's during a tornado warning today with my parents and daughter. We were all ushered to the back of the store to the restroom area, and it occured to me that there was probably less chance of a tornado hitting the store than there was a bunch of us getting shot all clustered together like that.

Let me know your favorite models, please? TIA! :wavey:

Before long we will all be in bulletproof vests and bulletproof helmets before we walk outside.

Just move to a country that doesn't have its head up its ass about gun control.

If you're gonna live in America live every day like it's your last.

Well, I would love to do just that, Kenny...however, I have a young child I need to raise. I'd like to stay alive during her formative years, at least, since I took on the responsibility of parenting when I made the decision to have a child. I'd never be able to convince her father to let me take her out of the U.S. permanently, either. :(sad

Yes. That's what I said in the Vegas shooting thread...we might as well all just get used to mass shootings being a fact of life now and start figuring out how to better protect ourselves since it is obviously never going to stop.

Well, just shoot him.
That's the American way.

Seriously, I get it, and I feel for you as a parent raising a child in this country.

In addition to women's bulletproof vest for yourself I think you should consider one for your daughter. Are there child sized ones available too?

It is so painful to even entertain that thought that I couldn't type it out in my original post.

None of them are comfortable or fashionable I can tell you that. I don't have one and am statistically more likely to be shot than you. :wavey:

second chance makes some of the best vests.
Don't buy second hand as they deteriorate over time.
But many states have outlawed them for the mere citizens so check your laws.

The just send on CNN that the White House just put out a statement it's pretty much the statement you see after all the other mass shooting.

Thoughts and prayers are with all the friends and families of those affected. May God comfort them all in this time of tragedy.

I know. And I'm sorry that it's actually a serious concern for you and other Americans. I googled it and found an article of recommendations for teachers so that they could feel safe teaching again. It's upsetting.

Why would states outlaw them for the civilian population??? What is the reason for that?

Because criminals would use them during the commission of crimes to keep from being wounded/killed by police.

Wait. What? Are you joking? So I can buy a gun with few, if any checks, so that I can be "a good guy with a gun" but I can't buy an article of clothing to protect myself? You're kidding us. Right?

Bank robbery in CA while wearing it a few years back.
Gang members wearing it more often.

also type IIIa is considered the min for law enforcement.
When they know they are headed into a mess if possible they put on a type IV with plates on over it.

I have only used the plate style due to better protection from stabbing weapons. And cost I would imagine.

Press conference reports shooter had a tactical vest on.

A vest wouldn’t help any of us against the type of weapons that have been chosen by the most recent mass shooters.

HC is right as far as vests when talking about rifle rounds. Most, if not all, only protect from pistol calibers.

So we have 8 mowed down by a nutcase muslim and the country goes nuts, prez calls for death etc (another day at the office for cheeto head) and we have a 'person' who has just shot up a church and killed 27 (I think 28 including the killer). Maybe we have become inerred by this whole thing? Most people don't bring their gun to church but maybe they will now. It's a perfectly horrible America.

I heard from the press conference that a neighbor to the church engaged and shot at the shooter when he came outside and was reloading. He dropped his rifle and drove off with the neighbor after him.

Edit - If new reports are correct and he was dishonorably discharged then it was illegal and a felony for the shooter to purchase or possess a firearm. He should not and hopefully would not have passed a NICS check when attempting to buy.

Well, a year or so ago everyone was talking about teachers and principals bringing guns to school. Why shouldn't ministers, priests and nuns bring them to church? It can be The Wild West all over again, but it won't be with six shooters and no one will bother stepping outside. It sounds delightful.

So he probably bought his gun at a gun show. Everyone knows they are full of loopholes. Heaven forbid we make those illegal.

Heck it's Texas, he could have just gone to his parents home and taken one of dad's. It's not like we have any laws in place where it's mandatory to keep your gun locked up in a safe. All you have do is look at how many children are killed each year because their parents left the gun laying around. This country is insane.

If anyone and everyone can have a gun, anyone and everyone can shoot or be shot.
If no one has a gun, no one can shoot, no one can be shot.
Just saying ............

My daughter lived in a town that experienced a mass shooting at a movie theatre that she had just been to the prior week. It's so upsetting that this is happening with alarming frequency and the best our elected officials can do is offer is their prayers.
