Really sensitive ears, help please!

In lieu of an oil base I'd recommend water based lubricant the type they sell for ahem... intimate moments. My local CVS sells it generically.

So what you're saying is that one should approach the counter and tell the pharmacist that you'd like to buy some personal lubricant because you have trouble getting your studs in, and when they are in, they are making you sore??

That might raise a few eyebrows...

But yeah I cant were studs 18k white or 14k white the back of studs cause serious irritation. So bad that my lobes have an odor:errrr: if i don't clean once a week. 14k yg huggies turned pink where the metal was on my lobes. I ususally don't have problems with hoops. So im trying 14k wg hoopies and 18k wg lever backs. We will see...

Lymph coming out. Smells like "cheese" white and solid. It's finally slowed coming out of my belly after having no jewelry for years. My husband had nipple piercings and I'd tell him I needed to milk his cheesy tits. He was not amused. I take my earrings off when I get home and into the ultrasonic.

Do a warm saline soak for your ears. Idk how big your lobes are but you could take a mug into the shower with you and have the ratio be 1 tsp sea salt to 1 cup warm water and dunk your lobes in for a soak. It will soothe irritation. It will also draw the lymph out.

Yes...yessss!!!! LMAO!!! @PintoBean you are too funny!!! eeeeeuw indeed!!! So you know the smell and feel my pain:confused2:

Great tip on the lobe remedy. I will try it. Thx:))

I really appreciate all the advice! I realize I posted this thread and disappeared.

Bron357 and PintoBean - thanks, I have both Vaseline and waterbased stuff, I’ll give them a try.

Luce - I wondered about rhodium plating, but I’m also having a reaction to 14k rose gold, which is not supposed to contain nickel as far as I know. So I was thinking a platinum dip or something, if a jeweler could even do that?

Bonfire - ugh I’m sorry! I thought titanium and stainless steel for sure would be my last ditch options if platinum didn’t work. I’ve not heard of people reacting to those.

Asscherhalo - thanks, but I’m actually 18 months postpartum! So I’m not holding out hope that the ear sensitivity will change... I’m disappointed because I’d been wearing relatively cheapo silver and 14k studs and now that I’ve finally bought some nicer diamond and gold earrings, my ears can no longer take any earrings at all.

Kipari- that’s interesting... so it would be an infection or something IN the ear piercing holes?

Alittlelight- yes, that pretty much describes what I think is happening to me! My earlobes feel kind of thick and when I put earrings in they quickly lump up and sometimes crust or turn red and hot or itchy. Have you tried any of the methods other ladies have recommended above?

I think you could be allergic to copper. IF there is no nickel in rose gold, there most certainly is copper. And sometimes a bit of copper is put into white gold to improve workability. And I would think the reason you are having problems with the earrings but not the rings, is probably that the rings are rhodium plated while the cheapie (or even not cheapie) earring posts would not be, as a rule. Are you reacting to silver too? Because sterling also contains copper.

My ears do this with random earrings. I can usually wear 10k gold or higher in both WG and YG without problems, but some earrings really do a number on me, and then some earrings that are normally fine sometimes also intermittently give me trouble. I find hydro-cortisone cream helps. And an OTC antihistamine. Stops the allergic reaction. I also try to keep my least reactive earrings in the holes until they heal, otherwise my holes can scab over at the back and make me essentially have to re-pierce them again the next time I put an earring in - which only exacerbates the issue. I've always been this way. I had terrible swelling and infections with every single piercing I have had done...and like a true child of the 90's, I put multiple piercings in each ear - I was such a dummy! I just keep the bottom two open now and have let the rest heal over. But I find that higher carat gold reduces my risk. Yellow gold is easier than white (although I like white better). I've never had a problem with silver or platinum. Cheap base metal earrings are I have never co-existed well.

Try the H2Ocean spray. Purified Ocean Salt Water. I pierced my ears for the third time when I was 42 (I think) and it finally healed up. I pierced twice when I was in my teens. I was allergic to 24k yellow gold, so that tells you how bad it was. I wear only platinum now. At some point I may try gold for a few hours at a time.

Try this spray 3 times a day. I bought a stash to save at home. And try using platinum.

Try Bio-care Bio-septic solution. It’s an antiseptic lotion for pierced ears, usually given with newly pierced ears? I get it from Shoppers Drugmart in Canada - cheap. There’s a similar version in CVS - they usually sell them near the hypoallergenic earrings (which do not work for me!).
When I get flare ups - usually from fashion jewelry, I use it twice a day - am & pm when I put on/take off earrings. Soak a bit of cotton pad in solution, squeeze over earring on lobe front and back; twirling earring post around, so solution is flushed all the way through piercing. Use it regularly then as needed. Hth.
