Hi all, glad I stumbled on to this community.

I'm looking for an oval diamond over 2 carats that will be going on to a yellow gold solitaire. Budget is up to $20k, but ideally would like to keep it a bit under if possible. Have a few questions here:

I had not heard of Whiteflash, and saw this oval: https://www.whiteflash.com/loose-diamonds/oval-cut-loose-diamond-3893924.htm

Are they as reputable as a James Allen or BlueNile? This one seems cheap but looks beautiful. Most of the other diamonds in my search don't have the images or videos up.

I'm in NYC and have checked out a couple of places in the Diamond District and have seen 2.5c diamonds that are I and VS1 that look nice for 18k. I actually saw one yesterday where they showed me the diamond on Blue Nile and offered it to me for $2k less! Sound weird?

Thanks!!!

Yes, Whiteflash is very reputable. There are lots of Pricescopers that own ACAs (WF's Super Ideal cut rounds and princess cuts). The nice thing about this stone is that it is graded by
AGS (000) to have Ideal light return, Ideal symmetry and Ideal polish. You do not find many ovals graded by AGS and GIA does not grade light return.
Most ovals suffer from "mushy" areas where light is not returned well. You dont have to worry about that with this stone.

Were you able to see the video? Its a lovely stone with no bow-tie. It has a beautiful facet pattern (8 main) and priced quite well IMO.

Many companies that sell stones like Blue Nile and JA do not own most of the stones. They are called in so you will find the same stone listed on many sites.

You might like to “reserve” that Whiteflash oval diamond if you can. Looks lovely especially for the price. Depending on your setting choice, you will have $$ left over to add some diamond shoulders or a diamond set basket perhaps. The mushiness talked about is when the Centre facetting looks really blurry. Unlike round diamonds, there are less ovals generally available so your selection is reduced.

Thanks for the advice. I reserved the diamond with Whiteflash, and will be speaking with someone there on Fri. As great as it looks they said its not eye clean, so I want to understand exactly what that means. I'm also going to go out to a few places Friday to see some ovals live and in person.

What are your thoughts on this Blue Nile diamond:
