As if I needed another ring but I had to re-use the setting I took the blue sapphire out of.
This is the interesting OEC white sapphire from the gem haul. It’s about 5.5 carats. It is more round cut than radiant cut so the jeweller beefed up the prongs to reduce the air gap. Very pleased with how it looks.

Yes, the gem haul.
In a nutshell I dropped in on an Deceased Estate House Clearance Auction at the Appian Way here in Sydney to check out the house and found two tatty old cardboard box full of odds and ends worth bidding on. Turns out the boxes also contained a vast collection of gemstones.

SCORE!!!!! For a minute there I thought, how does she have pics of my gems, lol, that is how I have mine stored in those little plastic boxes in black trays.

Wut?!

Also were the gems labeled? Are you going to keep them all? I’m still flabbergasted by this amazing story!

No, there were rusted shut tin boxes and other containers that I thought might have had buttons in them. The boxes had loose, broken necklaces, with beads and pearls as well as other loose “coloured stones” I thought were just crystals in the bottom of the boxes, along with dead insect and spider bodies! The boxes had been in one of the old wardrobes in the house maybe 30 years plus. Everything from inside the old wardrobes (everything was just emptied out and put on the floor and bed) was auctioned off. There were towels still with the tags on from the 1960s! Old paper tags from a shop that changed name in the 70s! It was all just dusty and really musty. Cobwebs and dust everywhere! The old lady had been in a nursing home prior to her death and the house just locked up and left. Once she passed the kids sold the house. The kids, who all reside overseas, had already been and taken / sold all the good stuff, this was just what had been left behind. Old wardrobes, old beds, old linen, old clothes (vintage and actually they went for good prices), books, garden pots. Apparently they wanted to dump all the old stuff still there, like to the tip, but that costs money. So they had a no reserve clearance auction to get even $5 for things, better that than pay to dump stuff.
So, no, I had no idea what I had really bought.
Intrigued as to why a whole heap of gemstones, along with various other bits, would be in the bottom of a wardrobe, I did some research. The Mr had been a jeweller in the City, obviously successful because owning a house in Appian Way meant $$$$$$, who had died from a heart attack fairly young, some decades earlier. He must have done some work from home and it was like someone just cleared his work bench and emptied his work drawers into cardboard boxes and put them in the bottom of the wardrobe. And then forgot about them.

@Bron357 thank you for sharing the story and I’m glad they now belong to somebody who will give them their justified love :)

Bron also generously gifted me a heart-shaped moonstone for my Fiona pendant from her gem haul. Forever grateful as I wouldn’t have been able to make the piece without it.

Love the cut on this white sapphire, looks amazing in that setting, like it was made for it.
