I recently had my diamond re-set because two of my prongs were loose, and I could turn the diamond inside. It is a four prong solitaire ring with a round diamond. I have an inclusion that was purposely put under the prong to hide it. When I got my ring back, instead of the diamond being put back where it was, it was placed to where the inclusion is on the side, not under a prong, and it is more visable. I want to know if I send it back in to have it put back where it was, will it weaken the prongs. I was told if I have it sized too much, it will weaken the gold, so will it do the same on the prongs if they fix it? Thanks.

I'm no expert, but I would think it wouldn't be too much of a problem. Hopefully someone else will correct me if I'm wrong but that sounds like a pretty simple task. Some people reset their stones several times and use the settings for other stones.

I would definitely have to have that fixed too. Good luck!

Hi Lyn, I have been having the same problem with my solitaire too. I have been back twice to my jeweller and he has tightened the prongs, mine also is a 4 prong. My diamond worries me because it also turns in the the setting, although he said it won''t fall out, but I am not convinced. So I have decided to change to a 6 prong tiffany style. My current setting is yellow gold shank with white gold claws, I have been told 18k yellow gold in claws is very soft and wears a lot faster
