My fiancee''s mother gave him a lovely old bezel-set diamond pendant that he''s thinking of having re-set into an engagement ring for me (also probably bezel set but likely in rose gold). Are there any complications we should expect? For instance, is the diamond more likely to be damaged than if it were being taken out of a prong setting? Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated!

I think an experienced jeweler would have no problem removing the diamond from a bezel setting. Setting it in rose gold sounds pretty.

A bezel in rose gold sounds really pretty

I actually think you''ll be happily surprised - older stones that have been worn and loved are expected to have a few nicks and chips - esp. in the generally exposed girdle area, but a bezel pendant setting is really good protection for the stone

. A competent jeweller should have no troubles getting it out of its home safe and sound.

Keep in mind, it may have been bezel set because of a prior chip. I adore rose gold and can''t wait for pics of your new ring.

Thanks! All of your responses are really helpful and I''m excited to see the end results too -- I''ll post pictures for sure.
