Stone, you are adorable, but let me reassure you that there''s nothing wrong with my reading comprehension.Date: 7/23/2009 4:55:21 PM

Nope, I consider that an emotional, cultural reason, that is not universal and apply to everyone, across board.Date: 7/23/2009 4:51:54 PM

But is that a logical reason? That is the OP''s question I believe.
To me, the answer is yes, the reasons Dave listed are logical reasons.
If I value rarity enough to pay for it, then it''s a logical reason. If I value knowing that my diamond my diamond''s clarity is in the upper end of the range, that''s also a logical reason.
To quote OP''s question.
I mean of course anyone should be able to buy what they want !, but are there reasons to look for an IF or VVS ring besides ego? (Like resale value, scintillation, anything?)

I understood the question, and I replied with an answer I feel does answer the question.
I highlighted the two most important words in your post: *you* consider it an emotional reason. I respect that''s your viewpoint, but it''s not universally shared.
I think it''s completely logical to make buying decisions based on our personal value systems. The reasons behind my choices (or yours or anyone''s) don''t have to universally apply to all to make them qualify as logical.
Whenever you make a well-informed choice based on your own values, that''s a logical buying decision. It doesn''t mean it would be a logical decision for everyone (or even anyone) else, but it means it''s logical for you.
Our wants influence our buying decisions; we seldom buy thing we don''t want unless we can''t manage without them. However, we buy many things that aren''t "necessities". Junk food. Homes (we only need shelter, it doesn''t have to come through home ownership). Cars (we could use public transport). Sure, there are potential monetary advantages or pitfalls that might neutralize some of our other reasons, but applying personal values to purchases is a logical thing....at least to me.
