Are there ever 1.4-1.49 RB''s available? I realize the cutter would be aiming for a 1.5 with a stone that size, but I''d love not to have to pay the premium for the 1.5. I am having trouble finding anything above a 1.33 or so. I just wonder if I should be patient and wait for one to come along, or realize that I need to choose between @1.33 and 1.5. Thanks!

You''re right that in general the cutter is going to push to get to that 1.5 mark but well cut 1.45 carat RB do come along every now and then. The problem is, there are alot of people like you waiting for them to come along so they do not stick around long.

My advise would be to find a vendor that you like and trust and tell them that you want to buy a 1.4-1.49 and have them start looking.

Good luck

Mike

I have a 1.4. I felt the same way as you when we were looking for my stone. They are hard to find, but if you wait long enough, you'll find one. One time whiteflash had a 1.497 F- VS2! Extremely rare stone! but I already bought my ring by then=P

goodoldgold has some just under 1.4 http://www.goodoldgold.com/1_20ct_-_1_50ct.htm
Here's one from WF's expert selection http://www.whiteflash.com/round_ideal_cut/Round-Ideal-Cut-cut-diamond-2167499.htm#

If you find a slightly shallower ideal 1.35 ct and you'll get something around 7.2mm in diameter . A well cut 1.5ct is 7.4mm. you will barely be able to tell a difference between the two unless they are side by side. I think the best you will be able to find in the 1.4s range will be 7.3mm. You don't want it too shallow that it affects the performance of the stone. So you decide if you wanna wait for the 0.1mm difference=)

Thank you both!

I have been looking at some 1.5''s in one color lower than I wanted and there are some possibilities. I have been looking at the diameter of those as it appears the less expensive ones often have the smaller diameter. So I probably should look at the diameter of the 1.3 range stones just to compare. But in the meantime, I can have a couple of people be watching for the 1.4 range for me.

Here''s one just over $10K offered on the big quick search here, and by everybody, with 0 for light performance, and just a modest hit for VG on polish & symmetry. My intuition, in consideration of options available at 1.5 & above, is that a premium may be built into the price for its closeness to 1.5, but not sure.
