Hello! This is my first post and I'm hoping to get some opinions on my dilemma because I am so torn! :loopy:

My fiance proposed with a beautiful RB solitaire in pave band (photo below). One reason he chose this setting was so the designer can make a matching wedding band, which will sit flush with the engagement ring. My fiance is very into symmetry and order.

We went to the jeweler to try on wedding bands, and my engagement ring looks nice with a band that matches. BUT, while we there, I also tried on some bands with larger diamonds and the overall effect was just so sparkly and eye catching! My fiance prefers the band with same-size diamonds, but I am drawn to the band with bigger diamonds. Compared to the bigger diamonds, the matching band just seemed kind of underwhelming.

My questions for you:

1) Will having the exact same pave engagement ring and wedding band look too matchy-matchy?
--or--
2) Does the set actually look better when the two pave bands are exactly the same? Perhaps I was just drawn to the bigger diamonds because I liked the wow-factor, but after a while having two bands with different sized-diamonds might be annoying?

Which would you chose?

Thanks so much for your help!!

I would prefer them to be identical. I like the matchy matchy look. And I worry that a band with larger stones than your ering will detract from your ering.

I like the matchy-matchy look, but larger diamonds on the wedding ring could look great, too. Do you have pictures of the engagement ring with the wedding band you tried on?

I like things that are not matchy, so I would lean toward the bigger band. Plus, as a woman who had been married a while I wear a wedding band alone most days now (I have five kids and sometimes my "ering" just seems to get in the way). So I like having something that can stand on its own.

Good luck

There's no "should." I like non-matchy, but it has to look good to your eyes.

Unfortunately my phone was stolen so I lost the photos. But as a point of reference, the diamonds in my e-ring are each 3 points, and the larger wedding band had diamonds with 6 points.

Thanks to everyone for your input. Looks like opinions are split both ways, and both have very valid points!

I'm not really into matchy-matchy sets. I think the size increase you are talking about from 3pts to 6pts will look great and blingy, but not be so big that it overpowers your e-ring (that would be hard to do because your ring is stunning and so blingy!! ) Plus being able to wear the rings separately is a big plus imo

I don't personally care so much about matchy-matchy as I do that the heights off the finger of both rings match - and if you increase the melee size enough, they'll be deep enough that the heights won't match anymore. Which would drive me nuts. So I'd pick the matchy set w/ same size/depth stones for myself...

I like non-matchy myself

Thanks everyone for sharing your opinions!

After multiple trips to the jeweler, I still have not been able to make a decision... never have I been so indecisive about something so small... not only is my indecisiveness annoying my fiance, it's annoying me too! :saint:

Another option would be a very thin (1.5MM, 1.7MM, or 2.0MM) plain platinum band. I really like the Tiffany Bezet band, which is 1.7MM. The thin band seemed to showcase the e-ring nicely (especially since the stone isn't huge or anything), and I am starting to lean away from the matchy-matchy look..

Tough choice, not that I'm complaining! What's a girl to do!? :cheeky:

I prefer pave bands paired with plain bands. I think not matching but coordinating (same height same metal) looks better IMO.

With your ering, I would wear a thin plain band just below it and then a matching diamond band beneath that. I think two diamond bands are going to damage each other, so the plain band will break up the one wide band look and also protect both diamond bands.

This is two plain shanks and one diamond shank instead of 2 diamond with 1 plain, but you can get the idea....

HI:

Such beautiful hands you could wear anything. What I prefer may not be what you do; that said: but plain (wide and another same MM size as ER band) + a matching band, gives one "variety".

cheers--Sharon

I like matchy matchy, but I can see a matching but narrower band setting your engagement ring off :o
