Hi all you owners of 2cts and above RBs (and anyone that wants to vote)! Just curious what you feel are the pros and cons to your choice. Which one makes the stone look larger? Which one is safer from falling & chipping? Which one is easier for keeping the stone clean and sparkly. Pls post pics!

Answers to your individual questions:
1. Which one makes the stone look larger? Don''t know.
2. Which one is safer from falling and chipping? 6-prong
3. Which one is easier for keeping stone clean and sparkly? 4-prong. Most difficult area to clean is under and near the prong.

I chose 4-prong for my ring, because I think the design looks best with less prongs (see attached photo and judge for yourself). Besides, I think adding two prongs will cover more of the sparkly diamond. If my ring were a solitaire, I would consider 6-prong.

For three stones I like four prong, for solitares I prefer 6 prong.

Ditto to fancy diamond''s responses...

Gorgeous ring FancyD, and thanks for your input Bella, you''ve been of great help so far!
Yes, I was trying to edit the poll for Solitaire rings over 2ct, but oops, dont know how.

The reason I''m asking, is I think I prefer 6prong, but yesterday when I went to view stone colors, the sales people were steering me away from 6prong, saying 4 shows off the stone better, 6 just has too much metal etc. I can understand if you''re talking 1ct and smaller, but I''m assuming 2ct and above, there''s plenty of spread to accomodate 2prongs??? so now there''s another variable to my search that I thought I had covered. And I''m wondering about the clean factor now too, since if I''m considering a BGD ACA for their sparkle, etc would it be counter productive to set it into a prong that will be hard to keep clean with daily wear?

I have not owned my new ring long enough to predict what will happen. I try to clean (using a tooth brush with soap and water followed by Jeweljet steam) my ring often to avoid build-up. Hopefully, the action can eliminate/lesson stubborn dirt build-up around the prongs. Worst case, I''ll try an ultrasonic cleaner.

For a 2ct stone....I would go with 6 prong. Mostly for the safety issues as a bigger stone is more likely to be banged around (well, for this clumsy gal, at least!).

For smaller stones I prefer 4 prong.

As for looking larger or smaller - to me it always depends on the prong style and such. I think with 2ct the stone is going to large anyway so probably not much of an issue.

I imagine it is easier to keep a 4-prong clean with just the basic toothbrush and ammonia/dish soap method, but if you get an ultrasonic cleaner that should make that issue negligible.

Ditto - I think with a 2ct you don''t need to worry about covering too much diamond with 6prongs.

I''ve heard that either is equally secure - if you go with four, the prongs are thicker and sturdier. I personally prefer 6 just because I like the look of tiny little prongs (I''d go with ten if that''s feasible

RaiKai Thx, thats a great idea, where can I buy a ultrasonic, and is it expensive? or did you mean get it done at the jewellers?
Yssie, thanks...because I do prefer the 6prong and the thin prongs as well.

yssie:-) I like delicate prongs as well, so I would highly recommend having the prongs on a six prong shaved down to be as delicate as possible.

You need to try them on to see how they look on your hand in person.

6 prong, but just wanted to see if there were any reasons to validate a 4prong consideration.
