I''m wondering how this stone stacks up to similar stones at this price point. I talked to a rep for BN and they suggested sticking with the VS2 clarity grade as you may see inclusions at lower grades.

I have almost a 2 carat radiant that is SI2 and you CANNOT see anything with the naked eye. I think you will be ok if you look at SI2. plus you will be able to get more stone for your money.

I know many PS consumers have leaned toward other diamond providers than blue nile.

Hi Noob

The diamond has definite potential and it is true what your BN rep told you that you might see inclusions in lower clarity grades - however - there are eyeclean SI clarity diamonds out there, just be clear with your vendor concerning your expectations of ' eyecleanliness' if you want to consider SI grades so they can check such a diamond for suitability for you.

This article will be helpful to you which was written by Pricescope's Coatimundi - What is an Eyeclean Diamond

I will read that article momentarily.

Yes, I have noticed that PS forum members tend to promote White Flash and Brian Gavin rather than Blue Nile or James Allen. What are the reasons for that? WF and BGD seem a bit more expensive than BN or JA from what I've seen, and I personally didn't see a WF or BGD setting I liked more than ones on BN or JA. I also feel like I can get a better idea of the settings with the images BN and JA have.

Thanks again for your help and feedback.

WF and BGD and GOG specialize in branded H&A ct diamond, which do cost more.

If you do not want a branded H&A, which is fine you can still find a great performer, then I would point you to JA over BN. JA has very good prices. The difference between them and BN is that JA actually has their diamonds in house (or has very easy access to them) and so can give you an assessment of eye cleanliness and can provide you with an ideal scope image of diamonds you are considering. BN cannot provide this service and so there is an element of guess work in pruchasing from them.

Policies and services.

If you are going with a H&A stones, BGD, WF, HPD, GOG and JA''s H&A can all be good and supported by images, not BN''s SI. Also BN has worst policies of all.

For virtual stones, I would prefer JA as they can get idealscope image of most of their stones, to confirm what the numbers said and they have a better policy than BN.

Thanks stone-cold. What BN policies are you speaking of? They have a 30 day return policy.

Also, with regard to H&A, I was reading about that briefly the other day. Is it just a certain way jewelers cut a stone that BN doesn''t do? If my understanding is correct, how much of a difference is there between an H&A stone and a non-H&A stone everything else the same?

yap, and that is all they have. No upgrade policy, no buy back policy, do not provide any images.

H&A is a measure of optical symm in the cutting of the stones, it is not graded by any of the major labs, the symm grades are only on the physical symm. The only way to see if a stone is a H&A is to see the hearts and arrows image which BN does not provide. BN does not own many of their stones, only those signature ideal the rest are from the virtual inventories when the actual owners listed on BN to help increase the chances of sale. Difference might be small, or even unnoticeable with near H&A stones or very visible but no way to tell without images.
