Hello! I have this diamond currently on hold and just received the ASET for it. I have attached the photo as well as a link to the video. I have found so much conflicting info on the matter of ASET and emerald cuts. Would love to hear your opinions!

Welcome to the forum :)

Looks decent to me - ASETscope image has a mix of light return and contrast, creating visual interest in real life, and the video shows it performs very well at all angles, which is hard to find (IME) in ECs.

The 'central band' looks quite 'strong' with direct light return (big bold flashes) compared to the rest (which has more internal reflections) but I think that is a nuance that is just something that I'm picking up from my personal taste :)

You clearly like it so how do you feel about it? It's a good one in a sea of somewhat iffy ECs IMO! lol

Thank you for the quick reply!

I think I see what you mean, and I have seen others with larger bold flashes that I have considered trading.

And I totally agree, the inventory feels even more limited right now under the current situation, but I do really like it! I returned the last one because I didn't really love how it performed in person. I really wish JA would add videos of them in temp settings! Maybe they would be willing to do so upon request, I'll check. Not looking for perfection or anything but just a good performer and want this to be the one! :)

There is a way that is useful to determine the pavilion angles of the ends to the sides.
The length of stone minus width should equal the keel length.
Scaled off the screen it is very close to exact.

That means the blue zone on 2 sides and the bottom lower pavilion facet are very close to the same angle as the top red one. Therefore the central blue parts are very close to turning red with the slightest tilt.
So face up for a person with 2 eyes at normal viewing distances this stone should look pretty good.

More than likely JA does not own the stone and will not have it to do additional videos until you buy it. I've never seen JA do additional videos so
even once you buy it I dont think they will have the capability. But do ask, you never know unless you ask!

Edit..btw, I think the stone looks pretty good. Do you have a link to the one you sent back? Just wanted to see what you didnt like about that
stone in hopes that this stone has a different look.

Thank you for sharing that Garry! You taught me something new.

I had heard that depending on the tilt, reds can turn blue and vice versa so I'm glad you are confirming that.

The more I view the stone, it reminds me of soft firelight and I do really love that!

tyty33 - I think you're right, highly unlikely. At least they have a great return policy! I will share the link of the previous one that I returned, although I am slightly embarrassed to do so. I made a hasty and uneducated decision. I realized it was too dark face up and l/w ratio was way too high. I thought I wanted a more rectangular shape for a larger appearance but changed my mind. I have very slender fingers.

Sometimes its really hard to tell something about a stone until you see it in person. Your previous stone does show a lot of "off" facets face up.
I think the new one is a good mix of on and off facets (nice contrast) so hopefully will be more to your liking. Let us know what you think when
you get it!

These are still two other contenders for me, would love to get your opinions!

This one is not doing much down in the center of the stone. Sort of a quiet stone. The outside of the stone looks nice (the crown step area).

This one is nice but not as "loud" as the first stone you posted. This one does have the size advantage.

EDIT - Expand the quote to see my comments on each stone.
So when I turn stones back in forth sometimes the change of the facets (light to dark or vice versa) seems to "slide" in while others seem
to "pop" in. I would say the facets on the very first stone you posted "pop" in while they tend to "slide" in on this stone (second stone
above). Does that make sense? I usually look for stones where the flashes "pop" in. This last stone is not bad though if you're
wanting to gain size. The aset image certainly shows that it will return light well and it's not going all dark at once so that's not an issue.

Thank you for your comments! I do get what you are saying about the lighting of the facets and I think that's a very good description of it. The last one would be a sacrifice on clarity, not that it would be noticeable, and the size would make a little difference. But I really like the light flashes from the first one.
Kinda sounds like I would be just as happy with either of the two, just needed a little validation :) Thanks again for your advice!

What are the numbers on the 1.81 from the report?
ASET looks a bit better and video has smaller faster dark zones than the first one posted.

Thanks, Karl!

1.81: 8.32x6.03x3.79 Table 65% Depth 62.9% Girdle medium-thick Culet none Fluor none

1.7: 8.09x5.9x3.82 Table 66% Depth 64.7% Girdle thick Culet none Fluor none

ok both sets of numbers are ok
66 is just a bit high but its ok if the crown height is ok.

Thanks! I am tempted to go with that one for the size, I used a simulator for comparison and it was noticeable. Seems like a very good VS2. I think I'll have to give the final decision to my fiance b/c now I am just too dang indecisive!
