Can anyone present a case for or against raising a 3 carat stone. My soon-to-be wife is admant that the stone must be raised. I, however, assumed that when a stone is raised the setting and diamond are no longer symmetrical. Am I correct in my assumption. Is it ok to raise the stone a bit?

Thanks for everyones help.

I am not sure i understand what this is all about... Whether the stone can be reset a bit higher without damaging the ring depends on what the setting looks like !

Well, it should be easier than raising a child.

What do you mean by symmetrical? If the stone is raised vertically, it shouldn't affect the stone's horizontal symmetry.

Some settings hold stones higher than others. Some look like the diamond is way up high in held by a claw of prongs. Others look like the diamond is enveloped into the makeup of the whole setting. It's really a matter of personal preference (as long as the stone is secure).

Along the same lines as what other people are saying, my guess is she just means that she wants the stone to sit higher. This can be accomplished by buying a new setting or replacing the head on the current setting. What type of setting is the diamond in currently? Is your fiance concerned that her wedding ring won't fit flush with her e-ring (a common problem when e-rings are set low)?
