"Radiant" princess cut

Hi I'm new to the forum but thought this would be a good place to ask, because I'm quite curious and find it interesting - obviously I don't know too much about all of this stuff. Sorry if I'm asking about anything that seems obvious!

I took my engagement ring to be valued, it's a princess cut, 1.5 carats.

The lady at the jewllers told me that it's rare but she thinks it's a radiant cut, in a princess shape with sharp edges. Because it sparkles in the center, is bright, and more crushed ice than defined sparkles.

The lady I bought it from is a friend from HK with wholesaler links. She told me it was an "older" princess cut as new princess cuts are cut more for appearance of weight than sparkle.

I'm really happy with it either way, but just wondering if there are styles of princess cuts that look so different? Or if there actually is a sharp cornered radiant cut?

Attached images although you can't really see the sparkle pattern from just images I guess!

Thanks!

Hi StefIllustrator
Welcome top PS!

There's plenty of radiant cuts that are square- but the corners themselves determine the cut. A princess will have 90degree corners, the radiant has clipped corners.
It's pretty much impossible to see that detail because the stone is set.
Is there a GIA report on the stone?

Do you have a GIA/AGS report for it that shows the bottom of the stone? The picture below shows the typical cuts for princess cut but there are
branded cuts that are different. Is your stone engraved? Do you know what the engraving says? Perhaps its a branded cut that is a little different.

Hiya thanks for the reply. I saw the stone and chose the setting which was fun :) it definitely wasnt clipped corners.

Gia said square modified brilliant. I've attached the image of it, I feel like the inclusion is large for vs2 but I liked the stone so much I didn't mind!

Inclusions can look worse on paper than in real life. What is the depth of your stone? Just trying to figure out why it is more crushed ice?
It does have a typical princess cut.

Edit....the ones I'm seeing on JA that have your look seem to have large table and are deep. Could just
be the angles on the pavilions though.

Looks lovely sparkly and white

It's a "Princess Cut". I used the quotes because the term "Princess Cut" does not appear on a GIA report- it's a name assigned by the trade, which is not a technical "gemological term"
Keep in mind that there's almost infinite variations in light performance.
Interestingly- not all Princess Cuts with the same facet pattern will have identical light performance.

Hiya here's the depths:

Thank you Rivendell :)

Interesting that the same cut can be so different! All others I saw had sparkles around the outside and a kind of glassy center and just thought that was typical (not saying that I think it is bad, just I personally didn't like it)

I think the stone looks awesome as well.
I hate to say it because the term gets trashed pretty badly around here...but it looks like "crushed ice" ( in a very good way)
