I ended up going with the one from IDJ (post #'s 22/24).

And to recall, I already had the Scot Kay setting from Jared (link in the first thread). I got it pretty cheap.
I took the stone and setting to a local recommended jeweler to have it pieced together and appraised.
I'm happy with the way it came out, and what it appraised at, but wanted some opinions on the head. They had to put a new on one, because whomever took the previous stone out cracked the original head. My thoughts were that it may be too "thick" compared to the size of the setting/stone. Am I wrong? The only time I notice it is when I look at the ring from the sides. Thanks in advance!

I don’t like the prongs, they do look rather think.

I agree it gives a very chunky look to the ring and it even makes the Center stone look boxy. I am certain that the Centerstone is remarkable but the prongs are taking away from its beauty and its size.
I would ask your jeweler to make the prongs thinner and more feminine... perhaps, even do claw prongs, and have thinner arms on the prongs in order to accentuate the stone .

prongs are def a bit chunky. Problem is, not every jeweler can do nice prongs. Def bring it in and ask if it can be slimmed down some. I would just ask for daintier prongs

What did the old head look like? Do you have any upclose pictures of it.

It does seem a bit on the chunky side (just from the side) but we'er awfully picky here on PS.

I want the pickiness!
I don't have any other pictures right now. I have it stashed at my mom's business. I plan on going to grab it Monday. So I'll get more pictures then.
The previous head had smaller prongs. I don't have any pictures of them.

It's from Jared. It is simply not worthy of the diamond. You'd be better off with a simple yet beautiful solitaire.

@JLMann82,
Who replaced the head? Jared, or the local jeweler who broke the original, while setting the stone?

The local jeweler my mom deals with replaced the head.
The original head was from Jared, which is who also removed the stone.
I bought the setting used for $250...

If you find the original photos of the original head, and take it to either of them, either of them should be able to restore the head to its original appearance....

Okay, thanks!
I was planning on going back to the local jeweler that installed the diamond and new head, asking if they had any alternatives.

There should be plenty of alternatives...you'll have to find out if it is a peg head or a head that was just mounted on the flat area. I cant really tell.
