Hi,
I’m currently in the market for a Round Brilliant diamond (1.5ct diamond, F-G color) for my wife and have some questions. I’ve been doing a lot of online searching, but the thing I’m having trouble with is that I don’t know what depth/table I should be looking for in round diamond of that size? Also, is there any reason that I should away from SI1 clarity? (I''m looking to spend around $10k). Can someone please give some advice on this?

Thanks in advance.

depth is a function of what you put in.

the question is do you enjoy more fire in your stone, more brilliance, or a typical mix of both?

within common table ranges, it might be 50-54, 57-61, and 53-58, or something like that.

SI1 is a good place.

Hi!

This one will give you that. You'll need to ask them if the strong fluorescence affects the stone negatively, if not, it will possibly make it appear whiter than a G. Many on here love it, and actually seek it in their stones.

I've bought from them also, great company.

Then there's this one, which is their branded round (the other missed the brand, usually for reasons we can't even see). You need to ask if it's eyeclean, don't let the 40x mag pic scare you.

Here's another, I haven't bought from them, but have only heard good things.

JulieN has a keen sense of reality, and is thrifty with her words.

Ellen today seems a bit liberal with what I take you verbatim for on your budget.

Looking simply, one option readily appears, and it''s that one...but yes...with any SI option, you''ll want to ask if it''s eye clean.

The cut advisor and the tutorial are good to help you with principles of table & depth. In particular, the old logic of identifying the right table & depth, presented here in traditional form, but as easily represented by 55/60, is no longer supported by even GIA, and any dealer that is current on the existence of their cut grades, which now include much more data.

Though I'd ultimately consider it, I'd in the end hope to find a somewhat better alternative. Seeing the good for symmetry makes this so.

Still, learn to go here to look up the data on the stone yourself, once you have the stone's weight and cert number.

Although I would rule out any options rated with a cut grade of Good by GIA, this one, according to them, conflicting with what you reported, is actually rated very good, and I would only tend to rule those out...and not bother running their numbers, because those rated excellent for cut, I believe, have a higher probability, for also getting a good HCA score, for example. But, and based on what's been already reviewed, a) a good HCA score doesn't tell everything, and b) the diamond's raw numbers are only averages anyway, so the reported crown & pavilion angles only imply the extent that they comport to an ideal HCA score. Three additional points...
a) though this stone only has good symmetry...tending to make you think it will be hard to infer the HCA score, that it's dead center in the HCA zone will help it's poorer symmetry,
b) it's almost an FIC, making it somewhat more attractive. Read about it..., and
c) the cert says "clouds not shown," which could be a problem, in and of itself, I believe. You'd want an appraiser to check it.

So, although there are some promising things about that particular one...since there's just a lot of fish in the sea, and almost regardless its promise & price...I think I'd keep looking.

P.S. I now see the option I mentioned further above is an FIC without being almost one...and would have my interest. It may be one of the "new" lucky ones...too far from AGS0 to have been sent there, unconventional enough for GIA''s excellent to be downgraded to VG, and so, its pricing may reflect this...but tools like the HCA can give it an appropriate second life.

Actually, Ellen read too fast and totally missed the budget altogether.

Sorry about that DM.

I would suggest trying to get the best cut stone you can, as that is what will make the diamond sparkle! Also, a well cut stone will actually look bigger than a so so cut stone.

I don''t think you can get an F or G 1.5 in a well cut on that budget. I would suggest either going slightly smaller, or go down in color. An H in this size in a well cut stone should not show color.

I tried to find some alternative stones for you . Hope this helps.

With a bank wire, you are right at budget here. I''ve bought from and they''re great.

Also, they have a lifetime upgrade policy, so if you went a bit smaller now, you can always go bigger in the future.
