Questions on how to sell a diamond

I have a diamond that a reliable Pricescope vendor looked at for me and said it was a .84, Good cut, G color, VS2 round brilliant. He offered to purchase it from me if I don't sell it privately. I was not thinking of having it appraised by GIA because I didn't think it was worth it for this size diamond, but I also don't know anything about selling diamonds. I used the tools on this website to try to get an estimate, but I don't know anything about it's polish or symmetry so I really don't know what I am comparing it to. Also, I know a used diamond would be much less than the prices listed for a new diamond, but what % less would you recommend? Any suggestions would be appreciated!

With the combination of grades you specified, I think it would be worth having it graded when the labs reopen. Is it an definitely a modern cut?

agreed. You won't be able to sell a "good" cut diamond for much, unfortunately. You might be better off having the vendor purchase it from you rather than trying to sell if you don't know what you have. You can definitely have it assessed by GIA, but I am partial to thinking that the amount you'll get selling is so low that it might not be worth it.

Yes, he said it is a good cut round brilliant. The vendor offered $1500 for it if I decide not to sell it privately. Do you think that is a fair price?

Without any information about angles, numbers, etc, I have no clue. But it's better than nothing!

How about some photos.

Assuming 0.84/G/VS2/Good is correct, $1500 is a reasonable dealer bid.

If you are going to direct retail it and hope to raise the price, you should have the GIA grading done. No customer with sense is going to believe you without it, and they'll bid with lower grading assumptions accordingly. They'll buy it as an H, an SI1, or less. The tricky part when it comes to GIA is the 'Good' cut. That means bad, and having GIA write a report about it doesn't really help much. Again, assuming it's correct, the dealer will probably have it recut before THEY send it in for GIA grading and then resell it. All of that costs money.

You're asking for professional advice from people who can't see the stone and who know nothing about the market you're asking about. That's a tough set of questions. Most of it is advice that you already got from a source you apparently trust who had the opportunity to talk to you and who DID get to inspect the stone by the way. It's possible there are a few hundred dollars more if you're willing to do the work and you're good at that sort of thing, and some even find it entertaining, but this isn't like cashing a check. There will be work, and there will be investment required.
