My (now!) fiance gave me a ''chunky'' cushion that I love (which is really the most important thing), pictures to come as soon as I can take some decent ones.

I have a couple of questions based on the specs:

Carat: 2.03
Dimensions: 8.25x7.07x4.76
Color: H
Clarity: VS2
Table: 50%
Depth: 67.3%
GIA
Girdle: vtn-stk
Culet: md
Sym: vg
Polish: ex
Fl.: no

First, do the dimensions seem right for the carat weight? I''m wondering (a) because I do care that the spread is within range (knowing thanks to you all that a smaller table and the larger crown angles do change the spread) and (b) because I am concerned about the girdle being very thin to slightly thick. I know weight can hide in a thicker girdle, but I''m wondering about the durability of my stone.

Second, what are the ramifications of having a girdle that is very thin to slightly thick on a cushion?

Thanks!!

Hi Litigatrix

If I remember rightly, your diamond came from ERD? I take it Mark was involved in the purchase? He is renowned for his expertise with cushions so you were in safe hands there, I doubt your cushion's girdle is a potential durability issue if he recommended the diamond but if you are unsure, drop him a line to check with him if it would make you feel better. Or alternatively you could get an independant appraiser to check it for you. Very thin girdles aren't always an issue if they measure in the microns or are placed in a non vulnerable area of the girdle. Your spread looks fine, you can find a fair amount of variance in fancy shapes for spread, but the important thing is how well all the proportions work together, if you love your stone ( and it was obviously chosen by the two of you with the help of an experienced cushion seller) then you should be ok - enjoy your diamond and being engaged - congratulations!!

Yes, it came from ERD. Mark was great to my fiance and I. I was cut out of the process at a certain point - hence the remaining questions!

LOL! I see!

We are only speculating really by what we can tell you with the girdle but having said that, drop Mark a line or call him and ask, I know he will be pleased to give you some reassurance with the diamond. I doubt you need to be concerned as Mark would not recommend a diamond that could have issues but you are certainly entitled to ask him if it would help you.
