Questions for buying gems (spinels) online

I am trying to buy a gemstone, specifically a spinel, online. Can someone point me to a list of questions to ask? I thought I had seen a thread here about this, but I can''t locate it.

hi I just wanna say that I had bought a couple of spinel on ebay, they are very dark IRL. Be sure to ask for some photos away from flash and bright light which always make a gem looks brighter than it really is.
