hey all.

i think our first DIY project turned out a little janky. i'm not sure what i was thinking, completing forgetting that i'm one of the least photogenic people in the world (big greek nose and a dimple) and that EVERYONE i cared about would see it. i think it was a cute idea in theory, but the execution was poor....or something. i'd appreciate honest opinions, but please be nice! should we use this one (ick), try again, or scratch the whole thing for a non-photographic graphic and text? i just want to get them out! it's like 8 months away...these should have gone out by now

i think its ADORABLE! did you have the signs made already when you took the pics or is the writing photoshopped on?
 
I personally love them! If it shows your personalities then go for it! They are super cute

I actually really like the pictures, and the layout isn''t bad, but I think it''s the signs that give off the "not quite professional" vibe. Is there any way you could photoshop the text on teh signs out, and then type the words in?
 
Huh? Least photogenic? And since when is a dimple a problem?? I think you look cute. I like the pics!
 
oh, and you are TOTALLY photogenic in those pictures!!!!! - as is your FI!! dont sell yourself so short, those are very very cool pictures!
 
i was thinking the same thing about typing the words in....thats why i asked about the signs. but i think its personal preference, too...some like the less professional look because it adds a more personal touch

the text is sort of a funny story! it was written on the signs when we took the picture, but it barely came out when we scanned them, so my poor FI spent a bunch of time organizing them and going over it to make it darker. maybe i''ll see if we can white out the sign and then type it in (if we decide to keep them...). we both have horrendous handwriting, so we probably should have done that to start with!
 
I think the handwriting is what gives these such charm. So real, so authentic and so adorable. It makes me all warm and fuzzy. I wouldn''t recommend photoshopping them out. I love quirky and authentic. My two cents...

p.s. My daughters FI is a graphic artist and his DIY project is the STD postcards. Sheesh, there is so much on them, both sides, that we don''t have anything left over to add on the invitations.

I also think they're adorable, but the signs should be typed! You are too photogenic! You guys are cute.

oh, you are just so silly--both of you look absolutely adorable in the pictures! the only thing i would've done differently at all is the subject line on this thread; those are words that should never go together...i think i took high school health class waaaay too seriously, haha. i like the handwritten wording personally. i think it shows a neat personal touch. just my .02

mimzy, I think they look great. I''m not sure how I feel about the signs. I tend to lean towards keeping them handwritten, but I''m not sure. I think they could look better, but it isn''t about them being typed.

Seriously, you guys look adorable in the pictures and I would not replace them!

Oh, and easy on the greek nose comments, girl, I am 100% greek :)

First word that popped into my head was ADORABLE! The dimple is sooo cute! Of course everyone should see it! I don't know what you're talking about- unphotogenic?! Um... no.

As for the writing, well, if you're both known for not-so-perfect penmanship, photoshopping your writing out and switching to a neat, "handwritten" font wouldn't be you.

Obviously I don't even know you guys but it looks like your personalities are really shining through in the STD.

ETA: The only thing that I could see changed is the glare on his glasses (especially in the first pic)... I'm not sure how skilled in photoshop you are, but I would try to cut down on that glare. If it can't be done, that pic is just too cute to change.

I 110% love them :) wonky font and all :) it is really authentic :D. I think you both make such a cute couple and you can plainly see your both mad for each other :). Your definitely not unphotogenic no where near that.
 
Firstly I think you are totally photogenic - you both look great!
Second I love how they turned out, they are so full of fun and personality, I love them how they are

oh don''t change them mimzy-they''re brilliant. I think that they''re really great. I don''t think that I''d type in the writing either. Maybe get someone with slightly neater writing to write it out but I think that typing them would ruin the vibe of them.
 
the photos are fantastic, I wouldn''t change them. I do agree to make the writing in text. also, you don''t mention where your wedding will be (town, state, country). I think I''ve usually seen Save the Date cards/magnets mentioning the place. I am sure you can add that when you fix the text.

You look super cute, Mimzy! Really! The text doesn''t bother me so much, but I am bothered by the glare off his glasses..it seems like it almost obscures his eyes. That''s the only thing I''d change!
 
thanks everyone for your replies. i guess we'll just stick with these! (i was hoping to use the responses as ammo with FI to redo or change them, but you girls weren't much help!)

i'm not sure what we'll do about the signs...FSIL's boyfriend is a graphic designer, so maybe he can tool around in photoshop with them and help us out. maybe he can help us out with the glare too, otherwise that will probably just have to stay (there's no way FI would take them off for the picture)

haha didn't mean to offend! no, my FI isn't greek (but he does have a big nose also!)

You could tweak the writing if you want, but you don''t want it to look too serious. If you wanted to type it maybe you should use a curly type font. Just a thought. Great job though.

Great idea and you look totally adorable! The only thing I''d change is the frame with the kiss. "You may now kiss the bride" is a big part of the ceremony, so I wouldn''t show that on STDs. You can photoshop the "save the date" sign a little higher so it looks like you are kissing behind it. Gotta keep a little mystery for the guests

Just to give you an idea of what could be done in Photoshop (this is the 10 minute version lol)...

Use the BURN tool to burn out the glass glare (or use another technique).

Pick a "handwritten" font. Change the BASELINE (think of it like the bottom line the letters are resting on) dropping some of the letters a bit below and some a bit above so the letters are not perfectly "written" straight across... looks less "font" and more "written."

Go to LAYER > RASTERIZE > TYPE to change the text from a font to just pixel shapes.

Go to EDIT > TRANSFORM > PERSPECTIVE. Pull down the right, middle square surrounding the letters to angle the letters down on the right like the sign is. Line up the top of the box surrounding the letters with the top of the sign.

OR Plan B- have the FSIL''s BF do it.
