Question/Poll for the PS halo lovers

You love halos right!!!!! So do I!!!!!!! However, my budget is another story.... SO I thought I would poll the already halo owners. As well as anyone else who would like to chime in

Budget has me asking myself. Do we spend on ring or diamond? Would you go smaller stone...say .65 ish and halo it due to loving your halos? Or go bigger diamond using more budget for stone and go simple setting in the hopes down the road it can be reset.. Resetting later would also involve thinking ahead as far as a band goes making sure it would work with a halo later.

I am just so torn.....

FI thinks that I will never decide because it''s too much fun looking at and dreaming about owning everything!!!! LOL

Personally, I''d go down in centre-stone size and have a halo, because I love the design. I guess if you were doing it for the look of a larger centre stone it mightn''t be so practical. But then I never wanted a large centre stone (gasp!)

I''d invest the money in the stone. I love halos, and actually own two of them, but I think the stone should be the most important part of your first ring. A wonderful quality stone will always be beautiful, and can be reset later in a number of ways. I don''t see how you would ever regret investing in the best diamond you can afford.

personally i found that not going with the halo setting didn''t really save me enough money to get a center stone that was THAT much larger then with a halo setting...

Definitely the stone,you can always upgrade the setting later,it''s much harder to scrape the money together for the diamond later on I think.

I would put my money in the stone. You can always reset into a halo at a later date. Who knows, you may even change your mind by that time.

That''s a tough call. if you are going to upgrade the setting in a few years, you might decide to upgrade the stone to one even larger than the larger stone you might be able to afford today. If that is the case, then just get the halo with the smaller stone with a plan to upgrade everything in 5 or 10 years time. That''s probably what I would do.

I would choose a halo with a stone under a carat, or a solitaire with a stone no larger than 1.5 carat. After my divorce I set out to get my favorite ring, and decided that I loved halo''s more than solitaires. The ring in my avatar sports a 0.75 ct canary cushion diamond, and I have never regretted my choice. The center is small enough that even with the halo the ring does not venture into "gaudy" territory (8mm diameter on size 5.5 finger). I''m one of those rare people who actually thinks small is better, so what is gaudy to me is of course subjective!

i totally agree with RxTechRN2b - i''ve been torn between the two for a while now too! i htink i''ve pretty much decided that i''ll get a halo if my stone size is 1ct or less and a micropave solitaire if the stone will be 1ct+.

rxtechrn2b and julie04, that does make alot of sense to me...i have been looking at solitaire settings when I was hoping we could pull off a 1 crt of larger. In fact I had found a 1.32 crt K from GOG that I was seriously contemplating. However, we can't spend that much. So maybe, a halo at .75 is the way I should go....

But, I am anxiously waiting to see what geckodani's ring is going to look like. I think its going to be goregous and I may be hitting her up for the name of her jeweler... if she would not mind of coarse Her solitaire she has being custom made for her is being done from one of the very first solitaires I ever booked marked when I first started looking online as well...it looks like it is going to be very special..

Right now what I am looking at getting for the lady is a size .73 ish w/ a halo setting. I fell in love with one so hopefully it is in my budget. Damn setting is almost as much as the diamond lol.

Oh Wow! Now I''m even more excited to see it, LOL. The jeweler I''m using is called Karagosian Jewelers. There''s just the one here in MI. I''d be happy to get their info to you, depending on what you think of the ring when it''s done.

I did want to make sure you knew that I was 2 seconds from going with Whiteflash, and I still think they would have done an AMAZING job.

It''s a personal preference. I wanted the WHOLE ring to be something I absolutely loved so the setting was just as important as the stone. I guess I could''ve gotten a larger stone if I went with a simpler setting, but that ring wouldn''t have been right for me. We did have to stretch our initial budget a bit to get the setting I loved, but I don''t plan on upgrading the stone or the setting so we made sure this was THE ring for me

I''m with Babyblue033 on this one. The stone and setting were equally important to me! That being said, spend as much as you possibly can on a great stone, then ask this amazingly resourceful community known as PS to help you find a halo setting that won''t break the bank!

I''d put the budget toward the center stone, but that is just me.

If I were you, I''d figure out what weight center stone you can afford with and without the halo, and then go try on solitaires and halos in those sizes. That should give you a better idea--if you still LOVE the halo over the solitaires, even with a smaller stone, then that''s your ring. If you prefer a larger solitaire, then there you go.

For me, I wanted something that would be have staying power, and I feared that a halo will look trendy or dated over time, so I went with a solitaire. But again, you must get what you want and what you love.

Oh, and post pictures of your comparison shopping, please!

I love the look of halos (well, some halos, anyway), but they''re so popular that I bet you a nickel people will look back in ten years and say, "Remember the late 2000s, when everyone had to have a halo around their diamond?" Like the way marquises set in yellow gold were popular in the 1980s. I like marquises, and I like yellow gold, but they do look dated. So I guess it depends on whether you ever intend to change your setting/ upgrade your diamond, or whether you intend to keep this ring forever. If this is your forever ring, will you mind if people look at it in 20 years and think it''s very much of its time, very dated? (It wouldn''t bother me. I never look fashionable to begin with, I don''t mind looking dated, and I don''t care whether anybody else likes my taste. But I think there are a lot of people it would bother.) If you don''t mind upgrading, and you think your financial resources will grow to allow it, then go for the halo. If you don''t mind risking looking dated and you love halos, go for the halo. Otherwise, put the money into the center stone.

Man, now you are making me second guess myself.... I LOVE LOVE LOVE halos and have for years (even before they became so popular, same with cushion cuts) but never want my ring to be compared to a yellow gold marquis (at least the way I look at them now)...

My FF and I have pretty much found the perfect 1.22 cushion cut with the perfect setting (micropave halo- although it is the TINIEST halo I could find, I want it to be tiny, classy, and delicate).

Now I'm wondering if I should just go with a solitaire because I never ever want to upgrade my ring (I'm sentimental and so is he).

Thoughts?! Advice?! HELP!

I'm going for the smaller stone in the halo. We knew what our total budget would be, found the best halo setting for the lowest price, and are putting the rest into the stone. I wanted a ring for life.

Option A, bigger stone now: easier to upgrade later, but have to live with a temp setting for however long.

Option B, smaller complete ring: if you want to upgrade, you may have to change the setting completely for the halo to accommodate the larger stone.

Things to think about. I struggled for awhile with this, believe me!!! I feel ya!
