Hi! I’m a newbie when it comes to any type of jewelry. Ive been reading a lot here. The other day, I went to a well-known store to try some pearls out. The smaller pearls is akoya 6-5-7mm, while the bigger pearls is south sea 9-11cm.

I like the south sea better. The akoya’s pink overtones seem to be blend into my skin. The color of the south sea seems to pop more, but I can’t identify the overtone.

Can anyone help identify it? This is so I know what color to request to online vendors like takahashi and moline. Thank you!

The akoya look more creamy. But I can't judge actual overtones from those photos - the lighting isn't neutral.

You can also just send that photo to your vendors and explain that you'd like a cooler strand, and that you preferred the colour of the bigger pearls colour in this comparison ::)

This reminds me of what my fiancée and I went through at Takahashi’s office. She is of Chinese descent and initially she just thought she wanted pinker pearls.

What we found is that the pearls with a darker/pinker BODY just blended into her skin tone too much. It became muted.

When we tried on whiter bodied pearls, on her skin, they came alive and provided a beautiful contrast. The whitest akoya Pearl necklace they had was a Natural White (NW) strand. We are very happy with that choice for her.

Note: You can still get pink overtones on white bodied pearls for a nice rosy effect.

Here is the NW with a regular pinked darker body takahashi strand:

With Takahashi you can request for natural white colour. There’s however variations within NW. Attached, picture from Takahashi showing the colour variations they had when I purchased my necklace. To give you an idea, another picture showing comparison between my NW necklace and SS bracelet in natural light, albeit through greyish window glass.
You may request Takahashi for the whitest among their NW pearls.
