as some of you have seen, im looking for a ring for my FBRIL and his FF :D

I have found one we are pretty keen on but its 100 dollars out of budget
uploadfromtaptalk1374772070866.jpguploadfromtaptalk1374772093362.jpg

Im hoping they come down on price beause i think the setting is one of the prettiest things ive ever seen. But if they dont, Ive found this

now I dont really like the smooth bubbly head, i far prefer the hexagon in the first one. So i was wondering if that ring could be purchased and have a local bench put those millgrained grooves into the head. Do you think that, that would be too hard to do? Or to find someone to do it? Or expensive? This one is a few hundred under his budget, so if it was like a 50- 100 dollar thing a bench could do while resizing, maybe retouching the other millgraining he would consider it, but i dont want him to buy it and find it cant be done... just wondering if some of you ladies have done anything similar, i would imagine it would be similar to adding millgraining, right???? :read:

thank for that ill shoot it to him. Im sure he wouldnt care between an OEC and a Tranny

But do you think that those lines could be engraved into it?

Not for the second ring; it's not just milgraine but there is a depression between the two in the top ring.

Yeah thats what i was wondering, if they could engrave these depressions too. but i take it, no. :?

I told him he could get a half ct in a plain setting or a fancy setting with a quarter ct and he told me she would rather have a nice setting.

So that's where we are right now. I wish I could find a nice one with a colored stone and filigree but I'm having trouble.

By a "nice coloured stone in filigree" you mean like the rings above but with a sapphire, ruby etc? And they seem to have a preference for Platinum or white gold?

yeah exactly.

Or, also, I think a nice three stone or bypass might be nice. I feel like I want her to get the nicest thing he can find.

I have no idea what size she is or you are but I love this band (its too big or I would buy it for myself);

Sorry there is so many, but I guess its a process of wading through a heap to find a few they like;

Or lots of diamonds and various ones;

type "filigree ring" into Rubylane and check under the price range you are looking for.

Niel,
I had an antique setting restored. I paid $250 to have the prongs restored to their original state, as well as the milgrain. My jeweler is not the typical bench, however. He works out of an antique mall and is very selective about the projects that he takes on. I think 250 was a great deal. I will try to post a picture, but I never took pictures before the restoration.

Awesome thanks! I was thinking about reaching out to some local people see what they say. I just don't know many around here.

This is my first post. I came across this thread when I was looking up information on older cut diamonds.

Anyhow, I came across this ring on E Bay and it looks similar to the ring you are looking at. It may be priced too high but maybe the seller would come down. Good luck in your search.

thank you snowmom!! Thats really pretty and I completely missed it
I hope you stick around! there are some people here with an abundance of old cut knowledge! :wavey: :wavey:

I will thanks. I have learned so much from this site. I never post because I have such limited knowledge of diamonds etc.
I do however, have way to many goodies saved on various watch lists so I will be happy to send more your way if you need them. =)

that original hexagon one i posted- the woman got back with us about it and came down the 100 we were hoping...so we will see how that goes.

and as for not being an expert- everybody starts off somewhere, doesnt mean we dont want to share our love of bling! :lol:
