Hi,

I had posted awhile ago on Diamond Hangout that my husband and I are trying to upgrade my current ring. We purchased our ring from a local jeweler with an upgrade policy, however now that we are trying to buy through him, he is gauging the prices, literally $10-$15K more than prices we are finding when searching on Pricescope for Round Brilliants.

Has anyone been able to trade in their diamond with a pricescope vendor? We are ready to buy, but can''t afford an upgrade without trading our current ring in. It has been pretty disheartening to say the least that after buying several pieces of jewelry and recommending 3 friends to buy through this jeweler that he is trying to take advantage of us this way- I want to be like Julia Robert''s in Pretty Woman and walk into his store with my upgrade, flash him my new bling and say, "Big mistake, really big mistake"

Thanks

You can try James Allen, I know someone on PS has done that.

there are threads about vendors who will take a diamond in for trade, you might want to try a search. basically, most won''t but some may make a deal if the stone fits their criteria.
i would try bill pearlman first.

Also try Bill Pearlman. He's a doll to work with!

ETA - must have been typing at the same time as Belle!

Many of us will, depending on what you have to trade and whether or not it works for us. Others will only trade what they sold. If you have a really well cut stone of good quality, the kind that Pricescopers like to buy, it will be easier to find someone willing to trade it in than if you have a stone that is likely to be with the vendor for a few years before he sells it.

(you owe me a coke)

for those who don't know.... as kids we used to say that when someone else said the same thing at the same time.

...now i see why we don't say it anymore!

JulieN- Thank you, I will give them a call right now!

Belle and DeeJay- Great minds think alike - we will call them as well, thank you.

Wink, thank you as well, that is v. reassuring. I have a gorgeous GIA certified stone. I have the report at home and can fax it to anyone.

You guys are the best!

I second all the recommendations above. Please keep us posted as to what you find out. Are you going to keep your setting or are you upgrading your setting too?

Hi Ivana,

You have a few options before ya. Definitely research Jim''s suggestions. He''s been around a while on the net and has earned much respect. This may turn out to be your best solution. Another option with some vendors (which would include ourselves) is for PS''rs we''ll take the diamond on consignment, feature it on our site and move it for ya. We do this for a reasonably small commission. In most circumstances this proves to cause you to receive the most you''ll be able to garner for your product which you could then use for a trade (which we would then back with full lifetime tradeup and buyback policies) or you could take the funds and purchase elsewhere. The choice is yours. If you have a good product chances are it''ll move fairly fast and it''d be a win/win for everyone. We''ve done this in the past for folks with good success. Wink, Jim and many of the vendors here are all excellent to work with so good luck to you in whatever you decide.

Kind regards,

Rhino,

Thank you very much, I will try to contact you tomorrow to explore this route as well. I know many people have purchased incredible diamonds through you, so I look forward to speaking with you.

Hi mrssalvo, hope you are doing great!!! I do intend on keeping my setting, but I think I will have to send it to Michael B for a new head once we find a new diamond. As for the jeweler, it is just unbelievable and incredibly sad!
